Ha‘ena, Black Pot still closed to camping

HANALEI — Kaua‘i County officials have suspended permitted camping at Ha‘ena Beach Park and Black Pot Beach Park indefinitely.

The county Department of Parks & Recreation has reopened other beach parks to permitted camping.

But some may have noticed Ha‘ena and Black Pot have been removed from the county’s online map of camping locations.

The two North Shore sites were removed to eliminate confusion for potential campers because the county hasn’t determined a reopening date, according to Wallace Rezentes Jr., department deputy director.

“Ha‘ena and Black Pot beach parks see a particularly high level of use throughout the day, and we continue to evaluate how overnight camping will impact limited parking, restrooms and other resources at these sites,” Rezentes told The Garden Island in an email.

“We will update the public as new information becomes available,” he said.

Earlier this month, permitted camping returned to Lydgate and Salt Pond beach parks.

Other county camping sites include ‘Anini and Anahola beach parks.
