Kudos to Rumi Masumura (didn’t she go to Las Vegas last year for a pickleball tournament?), Nolan Ahn and the Pickleball Association of Kaua‘i on hosting the PAK Open tournament that started Friday at the Kalawai Park and continues through today!

Basketball coach Phil Baclayon teamed with Kaleo Perez for one of the senior mens doubles squads, and Aaron Uyeda paired with Nolan Ahn (who was doing microphone duty while they were on court?), and a lot more. Now, who’s going to come out when the weekend ends and play mixed doubles today?
Kudos to Jackie Kaina and all those hands for getting the Kaua‘i Job Fair going on the last day of school and the start of a long weekend! It was a good test for the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center (who said they couldn’t find it on Google Maps, and the iPhone Maps?), where Randy Francisco and Sonia Topenio had to juggle cars and the job fair because there was another party waiting to set up for Saturday. Randy said the center is pretty busy for the next few months.
Koloa Landing Resort (how was that Kaua‘i Poke Fest?) was being pretty flexible with high school students looking for summer jobs, and both state Department of Education Kaua‘i Complex Area Superintendent Paul Zina and Kaua‘i Community College Chancellor Joseph Daisy dropped in to see how things were going with the job fair where the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands Morale, Welfare and Recreation department is recruiting and getting ready for a new commanding officer at PMRF.
And for those looking for things to do, this is the final (and probably the biggest) day of the Pickleball Association of Kaua‘i Open Tournament at Kalawai Park in Kalaheo today, and The Kaua‘i Veterans Council hosts the Memorial Day Service Monday morning starting at 10 a.m. at the newly expanded Kaua‘i Veteran Cemetery. Many will go to lunch at MCS Grill after the ceremony.
