WAIMEA — Menehune infielder Ryleah Torres finished Friday with three home runs in two games to lead Waimea High School to victories over Kaua‘i High School during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation softball games played at the Waimea Athletic Field.
Torres conked two homers in Waimea’s 14-4 win that ended in the game shortened by the 10-run rule in the sixth inning. She followed that with another home run in the nightcap, when Waimea took an 11-1 win in five innings at the contest that was re-scheduled due to Kaua‘i High having its prom. The Menehune notched 18 hits in the first win.
Menehune shortstop Sianni Sakai had a solo home run to open the nightcap victory where Waimea had 11 hits.
Torres led the Menehune hitting in the first contest, going 4-for-4, scoring three times and batting in five Waimea runs. She went on to have a perfect second contest, going 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in five runs.
Menehune lead-off batter Sakai finished the first game by scoring four times and recording three hits. She improved in the second game, scoring three times with four hits, including the solo blast in the first inning, and 3 RBI.
Waimea pitcher Taelor Camelo picked up the two victories, throwing two-hitters in both contests.
Kaua‘i High enjoyed a brief moment in the sun, scoring two runs in the first inning of the first game before the Menehune answered in the home half of the inning.
Daelynn Keale opened the books for the Raiders with a single, followed by Mia Marty securing first on a Waimea miscue. Jadyn Naka‘ahiki was hit by a pitch to load the bags with no outs.
With one away on an infield fly, Karlee-Rose Keale smacked an RBI single, scoring Daelynn Keale. An error at first base moved Karlee-Rose Keale to second and scoring Marty.
Karlee-Rose Keale had the hot bat for Kaua‘i High with two hits and two RBI. The Raiders notched five hits. Marty had the hot bat in the second game, smacking an RBI single.
Kaua‘i High hosts Kapa‘a High Wednesday at Isenberg Park in a single match starting at 6 p.m.
