LIHU‘E — The County of Kaua‘i Planning Department has scheduled a series of virtual and in-person open houses across the island to gather public input on the Kaua‘i Climate Adaptation Plan (CAP).
The purpose of the CAP is to analyze the county’s vulnerability to climate change and provide recommendations to build resiliency into county policies, programs and investments across multiple sectors.
It provides an opportunity to engage with the community to establish a collaborative, long-term roadmap for equitable sustainable adaptation.
“The county’s ability to provide services and infrastructure to the community will be drastically impacted by the changing climate,” said Kaʻaina Hull, county planning director. “We want to engage residents to figure out which adaptation actions work best for our community.”
A virtual open house will be held on Wednesday, March 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., via Zoom. Interested participants are asked to pre-register on the CAP website, kauaiadaptation.com.
A series of in-person open houses will be held as follows:
• Monday, March 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., Kekaha Neighborhood Center;
• Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, Kukui Grove Center food court;
• Tuesday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m., Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center;
• Thursday, April 7, from 4 to 7 p.m., Koloa Neighborhood Center;
• Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Aina Ho‘okupu o Kilauea.
All in-person open houses are walk-thru events that participants can visit at any time during the event hours.
The CAP will include an islandwide hazard, risk and vulnerability assessment and adaptation actions for communities and infrastructure.
