LIHU‘E — Tuesday, the county recorded its 20th COVID-19-related fatality, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced.
The fatality was a male resident in his 70s who was hospitalized, according to officials.
“We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of this resident,” Mayor Derek Kawakami said in a statement. “We offer our thoughts and prayers to this individual’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
The KDHO also reported 84 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the number of active, recorded cases to 389. Nine cases are currently hospitalized.
According to the state Department of Public Safety, there are currently 54 active COVID-19 infections among inmates and seven among staff members at the Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center in Wailua. One new case was reported Tuesday.
To date, the county has recorded 11,203 cumulative cases.
Pediatric vaccines for children ages 5 to 11 are available at Wilcox Medical Center every Wednesday from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Make an appointment at wilcoxhealth.org/vaccine.
A mobile vaccine clinic will be at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center on Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m., open for those aged 12 and older. First and second doses and boosters of Pfizer and Moderna are available. No appointment is necessary.
Saturday, Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i will host two walk-in vaccine clinics open to everyone aged 5 and older. In Kapa‘a, the team will be at the Ho‘ola Lahui Hawai‘i Kaua‘i Community Health Center behind Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital from 9 to 11 a.m., and at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea from 9 to 11 a.m.
