Mikala Kalaulipo Kanahele-Woodruff
Mikala Kalaulipo Kanahele-Woodruff passed away on Jan. 15, 2022, in Kekaha, at the age of 83. She was born on Feb. 25 1938, in Pu‘uwai, Ni‘ihau. She was a housewife.
Mikala was preceded in death by her parents Rosaline Nizo-Takahashi and Moses Kanahele.
Mikala is survived by her son Stanley (Emmaline Semana) Chock, daughters Mildred (James) Chock-Rita, Lorraine (Donovan) Rivera, Colleen (Jay) Niau, Caryn (Tony) Bernaldes, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, brothers Donald (Annie) Kanahele, Leonard (Cecelia) Kanahele, sister Kaleimomi (Marion) Schmidt, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at Garden Island Mortuary from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Casual attire and flowers are welcome. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required.
Magdalena Padilla
Magdalena Padilla, of Hanapepe, passed away on Dec. 11, 2020, at the age of 87. She was born on April 2, 1933, in Hanamaulu. She was a retired waitress for Sheraton Kauai Resort.
Magdalena was preceded in death by parents Pedro and Alejandra Planas, husband Marcelino Padilla, sisters Aurelia Pe Benito Planas Bachiller, Dolores Planas Domenden and brothers Juan Planas and Gregorio Planas.
Magdalena is survived by sons Genaro (Margaret) Padilla of Lawa‘i, James Padilla of Hanapepe, daughters Angie (Burt) Rapanot of Kekaha, Virginia (Joel) Maimon of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, and Donna Padilla of Kaneohe, O‘ahu, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, sister Josephine Stone of Honolulu, O‘ahu, numerous nieces and nephews
A celebration of life for Magdalena Padilla will be held on Jan. 29, 2022, at Westside Christian Center, 8041 Kekaha Road, Kekaha, Kaua‘i. A walk-thru visitation is at 9 a.m. followed by service at 10 a.m. and burial to at Salt Pond Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and a mask are required.
John Godfredo Gandeza
John Godfredo Gandeza, 75, of Lihu‘e passed away on Jan. 17, 2022. He was born on Nov. 8, 1946, in Lihu‘e. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Vietnam War. He was the owner of John Gandeza Photography and later retired from the County of Kauai Public Works.
John was preceded in death by parents Ricardo Gandeza and Tarcila Soriano, his brothers Nicasio Asuncion Sr. and Rudy Gandeza and sister Sylvia Camat.
John is survived by his wife Callie Gandeza, son Christopher (Taryn) Gandeza, daughter Tamra (Kalani) Addington, granddaughter Wailana Gandeza, grandsons Kailer Chow-Agor and Kade Gandeza, hanai son, Roven Poai, stepmother, Esther Gandeza, brothers James Gandeza, Joseph (Shelley) Gandeza, Jacob (Noreen) Gandeza, sisters Plebicita Jaquias, Edna (Julio) Bolante, Medina (Andy) Pawley, Jessica (Norvin) Olivas and Florence Gandeza Tavares, sisters-in-law, Jackie Gandeza, Lorna Asuncion, Cynthia Johnson, brother-in-law Melvin Camat, numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Kauai Memorial Gardens is assisting the family with arrangements.
