Santa and friends are in their new ride, a found Royal Palm sheath that has been transformed into a canoe at the Festival of Lights that switched on, Thanksgiving night. The lights will be turned on every night through New Year’s Day from 6 to 11 p.m. The real Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 3, 10, 17, and Christmas Eve.

And mahalo to the Kukui Grove Center and the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau for allowing the KIFB to serve as a collection site for its Holiday Food Drive during the Pau Hana Markets that meet Monday afternoons.

Hope Thanksgiving during these COVID-19 times was as good as it could be. Prospective West Kaua‘i Lion Antonia Loomis said she likes kalua pork done in the slow cooker, Grandma-style, and who got all the turkey bones for jook?
Mahalo, Capt. Shawn Keoho and Lt. Amy Lewis of The Salvation Army for getting all those community people together to help feed the community. Lion Matt Bernabe did a great job with the Hardy Street traffic, and where did Bart Thomas go? Kenzie Peiffer (she was doing Red Kettle duty at Walmart, too) was everywhere.
Mahalo, Fred Atkins for helping move all those meals packed by Chef Johnny Saguid and his crew from The Plantation House by Gaylord’s that had a lot of Kanahele (they even had some down at the Hanapepe Corps!) family.
Lion Basilio “Coach Bunga” Fuertes said Carmila Udarbe will be doing more seedlings (Coach Bunga has some red and yellow bulb onions coming out, too) on Dec. 4 (that’s the same day Lion Eric Nordmeier and company will be finishing up the Hofgaard lights decorating) for people who need a little advance notice. Yes, it’ll be in front of the Gather Federal Credit Union in the ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center.
And, for all those people who Elizabeth Freeman said don’t know about the Festival of Lights, the lights are on (the timers are set for 6 p.m.) at the Historic County Building (and, who did the Moikeha Building?), every night from now through New Year’s.
