LIHU‘E — Midway through the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling six-week season, the Kapa‘a girls lead the league, along with the Kaua‘i boys leading their division.
Including the bowling taking place Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Bowl, there are three games remaining to roll before the season ends on the Wednesday ahead of Thanksgiving.
The Kapa‘a girls, led by strong rolls from Skye Tadani, Kailee Gorospe, Keahi Bacon, and Jennifer Hayakawa, hold an accumulated 24 points after taking three weeks of competition on a total pinfall of 2,087 in Week 1, 2,057 in Week 2, and a 2,017 pinfall in last week’s bowling.
Menehune girls, with a field of new bowlers, are in second place with 12 points after finishing with a 1,628 pinfall in Week 3 led by Irish Oriente, Joyce Ochua, Glydelle Valmoja, and Erica Borbis.
Waimea girls rolled a 1,529 pinfall in Week 2 and opened the six-week tour with a 1,529 pinfall on Oct. 21.
Individually, Callum Meredith finished Week 3 with a 616 total pinfall to lead the boys field, getting a strong challenge by Kaua‘i’s Kyllie Sasaki who rolled a total 557 pinfall in Week 3.
Skye Tadani of Kapa‘a leads the Girls individualist after rolling a 616 total pinfall, including her first season game over 200 points during Week 3 action where she was challenged by teammate Jennifer Hayakawa who finished with a 479 pinfall.
Kaua‘i girls, similar to the Kapa‘a boys, fielded just two bowlers.
Week 4 of KIF bowling takes place Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Bowl. Adherence to COVID-19 protocols means there are no spectators allowed in the bowler’s side of the bowling alley, and live streaming has been available.
The Billy Tees Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association bowling championships are scheduled for Dec. 9 and 10 at the Leeward Bowl on O‘ahu.
