LIHU‘E — The Misha Hawai‘i pop-up opened Friday with an assortment of pearl jewelry designed by Honolulu jewelry designer Misha Lam.
“Pearl,” Lam said. “That’s our specialty.”
Situated in the space between ParTea and Small Fry Kaua‘i, Misha Hawai‘i will be available for shopping through Sunday. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We’re here for three days,” said Angela Stein of Misha Hawai‘i. “People were so gracious during our last visit earlier in the spring, we were thrilled to find out we could be here for three days.”
The pop-up is just part of the excitement in the Kukui Grove Center that started Thursday with the whirlwind “road trip” by the current Hawai‘i USA Federal Credit Union CEO Greg Young who was accompanied by the former CEO Karl Yoneshige.
Through the efforts of Taylor Shigemoto of the Hawai‘iUSA FCU Kaua‘i Branch, Young and Yoneshige were treated to meet community leaders and the “many professionals” at the Hawai‘iUSA FCU through a specially-prepared breakfast headlined with dishes prepared by Karen Shigemoto.
“You would think that after all that Halloween excitement that was spread out over nearly a month, you would have time to relax,” said Melissa McFerrin-Warrack, the specialty leasing and marketing manager of Kukui Grove, at the meeting. “But there is a lot of excitement, this weekend.”
Julijana Pinnock starts her classes for the Julia’s Art with Heart exhibit that celebrated its special opening, Thursday at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery with performances from her son, Ethan, who is a young person chess champion.
Ethan’s performance opened the doors to Megan Lawson and her Desperado Orchestra that blanketed the exhibit that showcased by the beauty of the island, and brought out under Pinnock’s brushes.
Her classes, held from 6 to 8 p.m., started Friday and will continue until Nov. 12, interrupted on Nov. 11 by the presentation from Karen Hall, Pinnock’s friend and co-worker at Macy’s. Registration for the classes is done online at paintwithjulia.com.
A thousand plants will be available, Saturday during the 17th Annual Arbor Day free tree and plant giveaway starting a 9 a.m. on a drive-through basis. The event is being coordinated through the Kukui Grove Center, the Kaua‘i Industry Landscape Council, Kaulunani Urban &Community Forestry Program, Alexander &Baldwin, Corteva Agriscience, and numerous plant growers and volunteers who suggest people arrive early because if the supplies are exhausted before noon, the event will shut down.
“And before the excitement of the holidays kick in, this is a perfect time to show gratitude and express thank you for the support people have put forward during this time of COVID-19 and the year,” McFerrin-Warrack said.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i, and the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank headline a group of community groups who want to thank the island for their support on Gratitude Day that takes place at the food court from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Kimberly Hope’s music, especially on her newly-released album, is full of gratitude,” McFerrin-Warrack said. “It is only appropriate she wants to perform as part of Gratitude Day.”
Kimberly Hope has been isolated from the world during the pandemic, heavily involved in caretaking for her grandmother and releasing her latest album in early October.
“I’m so thankful for all the support I’ve gotten from everyone,” Hope said. “I’m just so excited to finally play my songs for a live, in-person audience.”
