Bernabe ‘Lino’ Laconsay Catbagan
Bernabe “Lino” Laconsay Catbagan passed away on Oct. 18, 2021 at home in Lubing, San Juan, La Union, Philippines, at the age of 98. He was born on June 11, 1923, in Lubing, San Juan, La Union, Philippines. He was employed by Hicks Homes and De Silva Construction.
He was preceded in death by wife Juana Catbagan.
He is survived by sons Mariano (Fely) Catbagan of Kapa‘a, Mamerto (Magdalena) Catbagan of Texas, Mario (Chanel) Catbagan of Kapa‘a, Maximo (Edna) Catbagan of Lihu‘e and Manuel (Marlene) Catbagan of Kapa‘a, daughters Magalina (Henry) Cabading of Philippines, Marcela (Warlito) Canading of Honolulu, Elina (Ellen) Catbagan of Honolulu, Mila (Augusto) Sajonia of Kapa‘a and Mely (Arnold) Acosta of Kapa‘a, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in the Philippines.
Daniel Tadashi Hashimoto
Daniel Tadashi Hashimoto, 72, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home with his dear friend Manima Leslee Dancosse by his side, on Oct. 20, 2021. Born in Honolulu on Dec. 25, 1948, he was a Vietnam War veteran with the U.S. National Guard and a hiking and tour guide photographer on Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by parents Shizuo Hashimoto and Gloria Elizabeth Tom Hashimoto.
He is survived by sisters Cynthia “Cindy” Swain of Kapa‘a and Pamela “Pohai” Daugherty of California, two nieces, one nephew, five grandnephews, one grandniece, and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Scattering of his ashes will be private.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James William Amorin Jr., aka ‘Cashim’
James William Amorin Jr., aka “Cashim,” went to be with his Lord on Sept. 22, 2021 at Queen’s Hospital, O‘ahu, at the age of 86. Born on Dec. 7, 1934, he was from Hanama‘ulu.
He was preceded in death by father James Amorin Sr., mother Beatrice Paul Rayno, stepfather Peter Rayno Sr. and first wife Marie Celades Amorin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Magdalena “Maggie” Amorin, sister Matilda Joan (Thomas-deceased) Baldovino, brothers Gene (Marilyn “Tootsie”) Rayno and Peter Paul Rayno Jr., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He went to Hanama‘ulu School. He worked at Lihu‘e Plantation as a cane truck driver and Singer Sewing Company as a repairman. He was with the Hawai‘i Army National Guard, and also worked at the original Lihu‘e Bowling Alley as a pin boy. He kept himself busy by also being a truck driver at PS&D, and also a vehicle-service attendant at Hertz Rent-A-Car.
He was an avid motorbike racer and would often go up Kalepa Mountain before race day to clear the trails and make them safe for the racers.
Services are at Immaculate Conception Church Saturday, Oct. 30. The church will open at 9:30 a.m. with Mass starting promptly at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
