Unvaxxed have no morals
A week ago my firefighter son-in-law came home with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis after performing CPR on an unvaccinated person.
He’s in the middle of a 10-day quarantine. My daughter and I were contacted by tracing staff and we both went in for testing. My grandchildren cannot attend school and were tested twice.
Precautions are taken at home by knocking on his door and leaving food or drinks using disposable paper products and walking a safe distance away.
It pains me that someone took away his ability to hug his child, pet his dog or kiss his wife during this period. We’re thankful that his symptoms are mild and not life-threatening because he was vaccinated.
Message to the unvaccinated: You are not making choices for yourself. You are selfishly making choices that impact other people’s lives.
Firefighters, police, medical personnel, grocery, restaurant, auto workers, etc., have families impacted by your choice to not get vaccinated.
Your moral compass is skewed. If you stubbornly persist in not getting vaccinated our community can never return to normal.
In fact, you risk discrimination from these essential workers the next time you get in trouble. We respect life and we need to be there for each other. Please get vaccinated!

In response to school bus drivers
A short letter I wrote to the editor was published Sept. 20. It was titled “Shed no tears for bus drivers who quit.” On Sept. 24, a lengthy letter to TGI was published titled “Try getting into a school bus driver’s seat” by Pam Courtney.
The start of Pam’s letter misquotes my letter with “Good riddance to school bus drivers.” The two words “Good riddance” only applied to the two drivers who recently quit.
It is like a “slight-of-hand trick,” only it involves words. Haven’t we seen enough of this over the past few years? Is it contagious?
My letter only referenced the two bus drivers who quit because they didn’t want to be tested for COVID-19 or get vaccinated for a virus that sickened millions and killed over 660,000 Americans and, recently, more and more children have gotten illness.
Nowhere in my letter did I denigrate any other bus drivers — I did not question their work hours — nor did I question their concern for the well being of the children in their care.
What I did question was the “concern” that the two drivers who quit didn’t have for the children in their care. Pam suggested I apply to be a bus driver. Really? I only suggested that TGI would be a good place to advertise the two job openings.
School bus drivers provide a tremendous service to the community. Just ask any community that has eliminated them. That being said, the two drivers who left made a choice that affects many in the community, but at the same time they’re not spreading COVID-19 to children on the school bus.

That’s dangerous. Performing a CPR on an unvaccinated person. In such cases, what are the choices? They’ll be held liable? Really hard to judge. But I’d say it’s okay to go ahead. But now what? COVID-19. I think the firemen’s job is always changing. Meaning new people because of its high demands and limitations to physical performances. So new people are brought in.
Frances, I’m sorry your son in-law has COVID. I’m also sorry that the person he honorably helped has it too. But to label all “unvaxxed” as having no morals is misguided. I understand your frustration, but it lead you down the wrong path logically.
I’m guessing that your son in-law is vaccinated. But how do you know that the person he helped wasn’t vaccinated? Perhaps he was. I don’t know. And if your son in-law is vaccinated, it didn’t help him it appears. Also, if your son in-law isn’t vaccinated, is he without morals as well? Not likely.
Prayers for your son in-law, the victim, and your family.
Probably should look for other employment .
Should all emergency workers then look for other employment? Who would come to your 911 call then?
Fran sorry to hear about your predicament. Your situation is not uncommon unfortunately. Blame the government’s overreaction. My guess is your son has mild to no symptoms just like most individuals. And the cold hard truth is that vaccinated people have nearly just as much chance of passing on the virus. I’d like to hear your sons take on the situation rather than his concern mom.
Frances Dinnan, what an outright discriminatory letter. The unvaxxed person who received CPR from your vaxxed son could have still passed COVID onto your son if he/she were vaxxed. Obvious point being that your son contracted it despite being vaxxed. Stop already. The vax narrative is so convoluted: We need to protect the vaxxed from those who are not vaxxed because the vax does not protect those whom it’s supposed to protect.
Our body, our choice.
My ohana and I mask up, social distance, don’t eat in at restaurants, attend church in our home, and respect everyone’s choices and decisions. We are Kanaka and love our state and country as proud patriots and Americans.
We respect our flag, military, and Constitution.
We very much have morals. However, the government officials who are ramming this vaxx down our throats somehow forgot that they work for We the People; ALL citizens of the US. Yet they leave the border wide open and give these people vaxx exemption, benefits and treatment. Americans and allies still stranded in Afghanistan. Inflation and increased threats of people losing their jobs. Who has morals?
Get a grip, Dinnan. Your drama based on ill logic is too much and this show needs to cancelled.
We have to protect the vaccinated from the unvaccinated by forcing the unvaccinated to get a vaccine that fails to protect the vaccinated!
Just stop regurgitating that *”the vaccine does not protect the vaccinated”*. It does a much better job of protecting those who are vaccinated & those they come in contact with than NO VACCINATION does. At this point it’s about increasing chances of survival from exposure and reducing the amount of exposure. It isn’t 100% perfect. If you want a nice almost 100% probability, do NOT get vaccinated, DO get exposed, DO NOT expect or accept medical help. That will significantly increase your probability of being another COVID death.
If this is all about increasing the chances of survival then we should be mandating diets and exercise, which show a much higher statistical likely hood of a favorable outcome then the marginal benefits from the Big Pharma shot.
So Frances, does that mean your son in law is a vaccinated individual that contracted (and has the potential to spread) a breakthrough case of covid?
Oh, how the turntables.
To Frances:
I do not believe your story about how your vaccinated son-in-law contracted covid and now is quarantining (along with you, who I would also guess is vaccinated, and his children) is quite the sales pitch for getting vaccinated that you think it is.
Here’s how your story plays out in the minds of “normal people”:
“Oh wow; someone who is vaccinated got covid and is now having to isolate so as to not infect other vaccinated people around him… I have questions about the effectiveness of this vaccine.”
Then, people like you respond like this:
“You literally have no morals.”
If the vaccine serves to decrease the severity of symptoms, but has no impact on contracting the virus and spreading it… like your personal story so well illustrates, then taking the vaccine would be a choice that only effects the individual deciding to take it or not take it.
Take a step back from the hysteria and just think about what I said above because it’s really not that difficult to understand why so many people are hesitant towards the vaccine and are entirely fed up for being chastised and screamed out for having obvious questions.
“Unvaxxed have no morals” Sorry Frances, this is a blatant, verifiable falsehood which serves no good purpose except to agitate those incapable of critical thinking. People making their own medical decisions has no bearing on their morals or whether or not they “care” about “the community”. As a matter of fact, someone who evaluates his or her health, makes the decision to not vaccinate and face being ostracized by people like you, reflects an ethical and moral person.
“We’re thankful that his symptoms are mild and not life-threatening because he was vaccinated” So the question remains…if the vaccine is so great why was he infected in the first place? Because he has had covid & easily survived that will confer on him much stronger immunity, including both antibodies and memory T-cells. Far more effective than the vaccine. Moreover, his mild symptoms were more likely from his overall good health, rather than the vaccine, which rapidly loses its efficacy. (even Pfizer admits this).
I’m glad he and his family are doing well,
Colin McCleod
Hmmm!! So he was quarantined so as not to spread it. Implying that he CAN spread it. So what’s the difference??? Vaxed or not vaxed?
JJJames are you serious?
The difference is unvaxed your chances of dieing skyrocket!
Wow!!!!
If by skyrocket you mean go from a 98-99% survival range to ? 99.99%? I’m confused. Please explain to me with facts
Prove it! There’s is no data that proves that statement. And don’t tell me because they said so on the news!!!
Then, you prove the statement with data that defines “skyrocketing.”
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7037e1.htm
Did you even try to look for the data? Or did you hear that “on the news”?
To DUH: The “prove it” was meant to Mike.
JJJames wrote: “There’s is not data that proves …” He provides data in this writing of poor grammar / education. Let the dog break it down for JJJames: “There’s” is a contraction of the words there and is as in “there is”. His “There’s” is followed by the word “is” as to write “There is is”, which seems redundant, doesn’t it? Like a written stutter. Further in the same “sentence” JJJames wrote “data that proves” which is also grammatical wrong. Data are pleural people! Thus a grammatical fix would be to write “data that prove”, not “proves”.
I learned this in elementary school. Woof!
So sorry for the typos. “Loladog”.
I am sufficiently educated both academically and through life experiences, to know that, when an opponent in any sort of debate changes from the subject of the debate to personal attacks, the opponent is admitting defeat in the debate.
HERE’S ARE SOME TRUE FACTS FOR YOU KAUAI.
I find it very sad that Frances is playing into the media agenda on blame.
There was an unvaccinated ff who was exposed to the patient in question for a longer period than her SIL. He did NOT contract covid. There was another unvaccinated ff who was wrongfully place on quarantine even though they did NOT meet the CDC guidelines for close contact.
So before you go blaming the unvaccinated and calling us immoral, know the whole story because in the end you look bad for not knowing exactly what happened and who played what role. Your entire household is NOT vaccinated so how can you blame us?
I understand your frustration but it needs to be directed at the right people.
So for all those upset about disclosing their own vaccination status, you just disclosed the vaccination status of not one, but two fire fighters. So unless you can come forward and say you are the other fire fighter on that call, sit down. It’s a small island. It’s not hard to put two and two together to figure out who all 3 fire fighters are. It’s also not hard to put two and two together to realize that based on the timeline of this commentary and recent disclosures of Kauai’s Covid numbers by this newspaper that the person that received medical attention DIED. Think about that next time YOU try to save the life of a dying person only to find out that person died anyway and you are locked away from your own family for days with nothing to do but think about the fact that your efforts went nowhere.
What form of CPR was performed? Hasn’t mouth to mouth been discouraged a few years ago, now just chest percussion? What protection was your son wearing? Mask, shield?
Frances, would you have felt better If the person receiving CPR was vaccinated??? How did you find out the person was unvaccinated, someone breaking HIPPA rules?? How ignorant can you be??
The still unvaccinated tend to be people quite publicly vocal about their unvaccinated status. It’s not a HIPAA violation when the person is telling the world about their own status…
Frances, you are a hypocrite. YOUR moral compass is skewed. Your son in law did not lose his ability to hug his kids, kiss his wife or pet his dog because he’s still alive. He survived. Your theory that only unvaccinated people can spread COVID is false. What I find most disturbing about your letter is your assumption that first responders would discriminate against someone in need.
I am the wife of a first responder and the mother of an RN and they both took an oath to serve their communities WITHOUT bias. Do they agree with every patients lifestyle that they need to provide life saving skills to? No, yet they perform their duties as trained. They provide help when it is needed. They pass no judgement on someones life choices. If you are in desperate need of life saving help would you stop to ask my husband or my daughter if they are vaccinated? Would you refuse their help if they said no?
I sincerely hope your son in law does not share the same thought processes as you…but if he does, he should find a new career.
Wow, Frances, you stirred up a hornets of the misinformed. All the rebuttals here are filled with misinformation, dare I say fake news, about what a vaccination means.
You know what, you unvaxxed just go ahead and take your chances but unfortunately when you do that you perpetuate the pandemic and give the Delta variant a chance to mutate into something that is even more dangerous. Face it folks, THE DEAD NOW DYING FROM COVID ARE UNVACCINATED. It won’t be me but it could be YOU if you are not vaccinated. Your choice but don’t involve me or people like Frances’ firefighter son.
Misinformed? Really? So all the frontline workers who choose to not get the vaxx are misinformed as well? They lived and breathed the height of the pandemic without the vaxx and are still here to share their stories.
You tell me who really is watching fake news.
Kauaidoug, As a paralegal, family member with 3 doctors; friends of medical and geneticists and others; I find your comments unsubstantiated and uneducated..
You do not have the exposure to comment about such medical matters..Your island is far behind the learning curve and for what reasons unknown the reporters are afraid to allow your island people to be exposed to TRUTHFUL AND WELL FOUNDED AND DOCUMENTED INFORMATION..
I PRAY EVERYDAY FOR LOST SOULS WHO COMMENT FROM ONLY OPINION. GOOD LUCK
Thank you for highlighting my point for me, Doug.
Dear Frances, your assumption about the morality of people who are not taking this injection is off-base. Many people like myself, are allergic to polyethylene glycol which is in Moderna and Pfizer shot. PEG is a very toxic substance for many people. As far as J&J shot, my doctor says NO! I have a blood clotting disorder. I resent your remark about my morality. Aloha, Kapu Aloha.
Kelehua, You are absolutely Correct.. It is well established
