HONOLULU — Eligible Hawai‘i residents now have the opportunity to recieve COVID-19 booster doses.
The state Department of Health issued prioritization guidelines for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to implement the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations on a third shot.
“As the science and the virus evolves, DOH will continue to make evidence-based decisions to ensure those at highest risk for severe illness have access to vaccines,” DOH Director Dr. Elizabeth Char said in a release.
For now, the DOH priority guidelines are as follows:
• First and second doses should have priority over any booster doses. The best way to protect Hawai‘i families and communities is to ensure that unvaccinated Hawai‘i residents complete their primary vaccine series;
• The DOH recommends vaccination providers give priority to individuals 65 and older and individuals 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions. The CDC’s strongest recommendations were to provide boosters to these groups, as waning immunity in these populations puts them at highest risk for severe illness;
• As supply allows, providers should consider booster doses for additional populations recommended by the CDC.
“We will have enough booster shots for everyone, but please allow those at highest risk for severe illness to receive their shots first,” said Char. “DOH’s first priority will remain encouraging unvaccinated Hawai‘i residents to complete their primary vaccine series.”
Individuals who received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago and fall into the prioritization guidelines should receive a booster dose.
Protection provided by the first two vaccinations continues after the six-month mark. Eligible individuals can get vaccinated any time at least six months after their second Pfizer vaccination. There is no need to rush vaccination sites.
While the DOH recommends individuals 65 and older and those 50 to 64 with underlying conditions be given priority, other groups are also eligible to receive booster shots and should be accommodated as vaccine allocation allows.
They are:
• Individuals 18 to 49 with underlying medical conditions, based on individual benefits and risks;
• Individuals 18 to 64 and at high risk for occupational or institutional exposure, based on individual benefits and risks.
Pfizer vaccine recipients unsure if they qualify should check with their health-care provider.
These recommendations apply only to those who received the Pfizer vaccine. There are no changes at this time for those who received Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Providing a Pfizer booster dose to those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine is not authorized or recommended at this time, the DOH said.
Individuals are still considered fully vaccinated 14 days after their second dose. Booster doses provide additional protection, but the primary two-dose series continues to protect vaccinated individuals against severe illness, hospitalization and death.
Get ready for an increase in the deaths.
Make money for the rich I guess. Everyday I feel more and more like a suckered for getting vaxed.
I know (knew, I should say) two men who felt as you do–that the vaccine was a scam. They both died from Covid. Surely it’s better to risk feeling like a sucker than to risk dying?
I personally more people who have had bad reactions to Pfizer vaccine than ones who had covid. Soooo, I went and got j&j.
It’s not about money for the rich,
and you’re not a sucker. No regrets brah, you did the right thing by getting jabbed.

This is insanity. The FDA voted against boosters. But the CDC director overruled their decision. This is not science.
Most all Covid deaths are from those people with decades long pre-existing conditions, all the while taking decades long toxic end of life prescription drugs, and being under medical care for decades long. It’s called iatrogenic. Covid is the Red Herring ‘scape goat for lack of actual Health Care.
You can’t take decades of street or pharmacy drugs for 30 to 40 years and expect to still be alive.
We need a new actual Health Care System, a drugless system, based on restoring health, looking deeper into what is nutrition.
After all, everyone eats, and no one is sick because they do not have enough prescription drugs. Just because we have become a nation of pharmaceutical drug cartels, using doctors to deal their abusive 4 Billion prescriptions a year, to the 80% of Americans habituated to prescription drugs.
Take the natural path in life and get Well and stay Healthy, Live Natural Food has shown they will do that, Supermarket snack foods make you fat and obese and fill you with disease that prescription drugs just manage your symptoms, and then just keep your diseases going, until you get Covid, then it is Adios…!
Is the reactions to the vaccines similar to the COVID-19 symptoms? They’re different. But the vaccines supposed to reduce the symptoms of COVID-19. Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is given to those only with positive test results. Are they giving some of the vaccines to anyone willing to take the vaccine on Kaua’i? This vaccine won’t work on a person if he hasn’t yet had the virus. I was wondering if people are just taking the vaccines in hopes it does do some good of protection. If this is the case, how many of the residents just took the vaccine?
