Kudos to Pastor Leighton Cabreira Jr. and the Hearts of War Ship group that has been working hard to get the rooms back of Ho‘omana Thrift Shop cleaned up in time for Na Wai Eha!
Rowena Contrades-Pangan of Ho‘omana Thrift Shop in Wailua said the new room is used as a church on Sundays and as classroom space when the church is not in service. The hearts helped Rowena during Na Wai Eha by hosting people to enjoy their meals in the new space.
Help! Dolly Kanekuni and the Hawai‘i Children’s Theatre is asking for kokua to help clean up the outdoor space around the Puhi Theatrical Warehouse this Sunday from 10 a.m. Face masks, gloves, and pizza (!) will be provided for helpers.
Kudos to Donna Lynn Loo and the Kaua‘i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Kealoha Takahashi of the county Agency on Elderly Affairsand all those school students who created cards for Kaua‘i’s kupuna residing in care facilities, and for the staff of those care facilities for their efforts are keeping kupuna safe and well, especially during this time of pandemic! This effort was part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance that started out last week when representatives of the different care facilities picked up the cards from the Mayor’s Office.
If you need a booster for Peace Day, Gerald Hirata and the Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji ‘ohana in Hanapepe have the World Peace Kannon statue decorated with strings of paper cranes (more than 3,000 cranes!) created using recycled paper. The display will be up from dusk to about 8 p.m. through Sunday.
