People attending the aloha luncheon (Frank Cruz and Cruz Control were pleased that Melissa McFerrin-Warrack had them on stage) for Susie and Randy Yokoyama braved the impacts of the passage of former Tropical Storm Linda Monday at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, where Frank Cruz’s banter reminded shoppers of the market protocol: face masks required, social distancing, and no-touch the produce (if you touch, you buy).

The rains must’ve been good for vendor Mayette Loseto, who had first pick of caracara oranges, starfruit, and what’s with the water taro (Aunty said gotta pressure-cooker that stuff), and finger lime?
Mayette also did well Saturday at the Grove Farm Market (Coach Beau Acoba and Sharyl Lam Yuen outgrew the “Information” tent!), where she pumped out all of two oranges of the 100 pounds she had available. And what was new at that market besides “Which one is bigger — the papaya, the mango or my face?”
Lesley Morris was among the five quilters who benefitted from bigger crowds from the rains that kept people from going to the beach. Hurry, the Garden Isle Quilters exhibit and sale closes Thursday at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at KGC.
OK, time to go check out chef Glenn Hayakawa at Haole Girl Island Sweets, whose chef Judy Capertina created the Haole Girl-style flying saucer using croissants at the pop-up farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula.
