Charles Carveiro Jr.

On Aug. 1, 2021, Charles Carveiro Jr., loving son, husband, father and papa, passed away at age 57 with his family by his side in Seattle.

Charles was born on Dec. 18, 1963, in Waimea, to Charles and Claire Carveiro. Charles graduated from Waimea High School in 1981. He then went on to graduate from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was on the Linfield football team as an offensive lineman, where he became a two-time NAIA national champion.

He was inducted into the Linfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 and inducted to the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. He returned home after graduating and spent 25 years working for the Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union. He later went on to work at the Pacific Missile Range Facility. While working at the credit union he met his wife Sheri Mundon Carveiro. They were married Nov. 21, 1990. Together they had three children: daughters Kelli and Kasey and son Cory.

His interests included football, rodeo, hunting and fishing, anything outdoors and having a few cold ones with friends. He was involved for many years with the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Association (Koloa, Kekaha and Hanapepe). Many today still refer to him as “coach.” He was also involved with the Kaua‘i Keiki High School Rodeo Association and Hawai‘i High School Rodeo Association for many years.

Charles was a good man, a loving husband, a caring father and a great friend. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laugh, big smile and kind heart, and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He will be truly missed by many.

Clifford J. Pimental

Clifford J. Pimental passed away on Aug. 9, 2021, at the age of 69, in Lawa‘i. He was born on July 19, 1952. He was an equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by parents Charles and Rose Pimental, brothers Roy Pimental and Macky Pimental, father-in-law Adam Orsatelli, mother-in-law Mildred Orsatelli, brother-in-law Jeffrey Orsatelli and sister-in-law Valerie Camara.

He is survived by wife Deborah Pimental, sons Clifton Pimental and Troy (Hilina‘i) Pimental, daughter Tracy Pimental, grandchildren Kira Pimental, La‘akea Henderson, Kilinoe, Ilikea (Buggie), Po‘okela & Ka la‘e Pimental, brothers Wally (Jerry) Pimental and Joey (Cobina) Pimental, sisters Carol (Tony) Pereira and Laurie Pimental, sister-in-law Linda (Macky) Pimental, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service is at Garden Island Mortuary Friday, Aug. 27, with visitation is at 9 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Linda Marie Pacheco

Linda Marie Pacheco, 73, of Scio, Oregon, passed away on Aug. 12, 2021. She was born Dec. 5, 1947 in Lihu‘e, and retired as a teacher’s aide at Turner’s Elementary in Oregon.

She was preceded in death by parents Willie “Marion” and Clara Gomes Rapozo of Kaua‘i, husband of 39 years William “Billy” Pacheco of Scio, Oregon and Kilauea, and sister Veronica “Ronnie” Rapozo of Kaua‘i.

She is survived by son Brandon (Chelsea) Pacheco and daughter Michele (Greg) Clinton, all of Scio, Oregon, twin brother Richard (Evelyn) Rapozo of Dana Point, California, sisters Kathleen Barretto of Kaua‘i and Laure (Richard) Thacker of Covington, Georgia, nephews Daniel (Jocelyn) Barretto and Joshua (Heather) Rapozo, niece Ashley Thacker, and five grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Jordan, Oregon, where her ashes will be laid to rest.

Weddle Funeral Home of Stayton, Oregon, assisted the family with arrangements.

Paul Isami Yamaguchi

Paul Isami Yamaguchi of Lihu‘e passed away on May 28, 2021, at the age of 96, at Garden Isle Rehabilitation & Healthcare. He was born on May 1, 1925 on O‘ahu. He was a meat cutter/supervisor for Foodland Super Market, and he also served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII Veteran.

He is survived by wife Helen Yamaguchi, daughters Paula (Stanley) Alquiza and Ann Kennedy, son Paul (Cynthia) Yamaguchi Jr., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Private services were held.

In-lieu of koden (monetary gifts), donations can be made to Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission or Kaua‘i Veterans Council.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Katie Ilima Lotu

Katie Ilima Lotu was born on March 24, 1972 in Kailua, O‘ahu. She moved to Kaua‘i in 1973, where she lived until 2005.

She found her soulmate for life at the age of 24 when she married Kiha Kinney in 1996. Together, they raised five children. From Anahola, she made Las Vegas her home from 2005 to 2021. Her home became home for many Kaua‘i youth who ventured to Las Vegas in the hopes of making a life for themselves where opportunities were endless.

She was always a high-energy person who loved connecting with her ‘ohana and friends near and far.

She championed many career opportunites while in Las Vegas, from the airline industry to home health care and retail customer service. She created her village, and her friends became her family.

Her greatest passion was the love she had for her grandchildren. She spent most of her spare time with La‘ie, JJ and Cassian, who lived in Las Vegas. She would FaceTime her grandchildren Kamekona, Joli and Joella on Kaua‘i often. Her kindness and thoughtfulness will be dearly missed by all who have been touched by her warmth and love.

Private services will be held by the family.

Helen Mildred Coffman

Helen Mildred Coffman of Lawa‘i passed away on Aug. 15, 2021, at the age of 90, at Wilcox Medical Center, after a five- year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on June 10, 1931 in Lahaina, Maui, and moved to Kaua‘i in 1959 with her husband. She was a hard worker and devout Jehovah’s Witness, raising four children and working daily on the family farm.

She is preceded in death by parents Thomas Ritchie Gentry and Ada Mildred Scott, husband Richard Coffman and sister Pat Horton.

She is survived by brothers Ritchie (Mary) Gentry of San Diego and Jock (Jolene) Gentry of Honoka‘a, Hawai‘i Island, her children Linda (Keith) Silva Kalaheo, Laura (Ralph) Owens of O‘ahu, Lana Coffman of Lawa‘i and Spencer Coffman of Lawa‘i, grandchildren Keri Silva and Zachary Silva, both of Kalaheo, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held privately by the family.
