The farm fair weekend planned for Saturday was called off at the last minute.
The cancellation is disappointing, she said, because she was planning on having the Hawai‘i Association for Family and Community Education group set up close to where the Quilters Guild is hosting their five-quilter show and sale, starting with the Meet the Quilters event on Friday evening from 5 p.m., at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery next to Small Fry at KGC.
The orchid growers were ready, along with the Bonsai Club, and Johnny Gordines was ready with his group’s scholarships. Were Gary and Haunani Pacheco planning on attending, too?
Over at the Pau Hana Market (keep on missing the closing time for Kaua‘i Bakery), face masks are required and social distancing is enforced (don’t want Junior yelling at you) and, of course, don’t touch the produce. Let the farmers do it for you.
This is especially important now that we’re going through a surge with upticks in new case counts.
Thaksin Sakda of Alohalani Farm had white mountain apples available, and Thankamon Emoto of Wirat Farm was talking about the difference between the purple long beans and the more familiar green type. Thankamon said the purple ones are more crunchy, and when you make soup, it turns the water purple, too.
