LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) has identified a COVID-19 cluster associated with Tahiti Nui restaurant in Hanalei.
LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) has identified a COVID-19 cluster associated with Tahiti Nui restaurant in Hanalei.
The cluster remains under investigation and currently includes seven confirmed cases, including both restaurant workers and diners.
Anyone who visited the Tahiti Nui restaurant from Friday, July 30 through Wednesday, Aug. 4 may have been exposed to a person with a confirmed COVID-19 infection and should be tested as soon as possible.
Anyone who was exposed and has symptoms should seek healthcare and notify the healthcare provider of their exposure.
“The Tahiti Nui management has been extremely cooperative with our investigation and communication, including announcing possible exposures on their social media sites,” Kaua‘i District Health Officer Dr. Janet Berreman said in a release. “Mahalo to the restaurant and employees for their support and concern for our community. We are making this announcement today because we cannot notify all patrons individually and we want to reach as many patrons as possible.”

The testing doesn’t do that much. I have a friend who was extremely careful before the birth of her grandson. She and her husband tested negative on Tue and drove up to see the new baby on Wed. On Thursday she felt kind of crummy and you guessed it she, her husband and the new Dad were positive for Covid. A negative test is no guarantee
Hanalei is swarming with tourists now, and daily we see “VISITORS” among the covid case count. No resident in their right mind goes to Hanalei anymore unless they are going to work, visit or to the beach and they certainly avoid sit down restaurants. 99% of the restaurant customers are TOURISTS. Don’t tell me they are not carrying and spreading the virus. Mayor Derek, where are you? Hello??!!! I was impressed with you and Dr. Berryman earlier in the crisis, now not so much!
