WAIMEA — The third community meeting for the Waimea 400 Master Plan is online Wednesday, July 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to review the refined concepts for the Waimea 400 site based on feedback from community members and agency and resources partners.
The Waimea Public Library will host another talk-story event on Wednesday, Aug. 4, providing an opportunity for community members to share their thoughts and ideas in person. For more information, contact Michelle Young of Waimea Public Library at 808-338-6848.
There will also be an opportunity for community members to provide feedback on the refined concepts on the project website, waimea400.com, following the virtual meeting July 28. Those without access to the website can contact the county Planning Department at 808-241-4050 or waimea400@gmail.com.
“We are eager to continue our work with the Westside community, which is why I would also like to address a topic that has recently been brought to our attention,” said Planning Director Ka‘aina Hull.
“Through news reports, we have been made aware of a possible wave-pool proposal aimed for Waimea,” said Hull.
”While we have not been contacted by the developer about any wave-pool proposal — in Waimea or anywhere else on Kaua‘i — we can say that through community outreach for the Waimea 400 property, it’s clear that a wave pool would not be appropriate for this site,” said Hull.
During a virtual community meeting last month, three conceptual alternatives for the Waimea 400 site were presented for community review and feedback. The conceptual plans were posted on the project website and at the Waimea Public Library for additional comment until July 9.
The Waimea Public Library held an in-person talk-story event on June 23 where community members shared their visions for the Waimea 400 area and asked planning staff questions. Their comments were compiled and additional meetings with agency and resource partners were conducted to refine the draft alternative concepts.
Registration for this Wednesday’s virtual meeting is available at the project website, waimea400.com.
Waimea 400 is the name of a 400-plus-acre site between Waimea and Kekaha that the county owns. The county has been seeking community input on how to develop it.
Anyone needing an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability should contact the Planning Department Long Range Division at 808-241-4050 or waimea400@gmail.com as soon as possible.
Requests made as early as possible will allow adequate time to fulfill requests. Upon request, this notice is available in alternate formats such as large print, Braille or electronic copy.
I think the books on the Waimea side are limited. Like for me, when I reach my 1,000 th novel, I’ll encase all my books in a box and sell it. Or at least give it away.
