LIHU‘E — Kristyn Peralta of Bubbah’s Toy Box &Collectibles said the prizes donated by fellow collectors and friends will be given away Saturday during A Fight for Cancer Pop Swap for Randal Gusman at Kukui Grove Center.
“The Pop Swap is in honor of one of our dear friends and fellow collector Randal Gusman,” Peralta said. “Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with stage 4 peripheral t-cell lymphoma. The cancer is a rare one, and very aggressive. He has cancer in his stomach, liver, spleen and on his backbone.”
In the coming weeks, Gusman will be traveling to the mainland for a bone-marrow transplant.
“With so many medical needs and appointments, the last thing we want is for him and his family to worry about financial hardships,” Peralta said. “We will be hosting prize giveaways to help him in his fight against cancer. All of the proceeds raised during the June 26 Pop Swap will go towards Randal’s medical expenses.”
Some of the prizes include an Xbox, Chemical Guys Car Care buckets, graded old Pokemon slabs, a framed Kobe Bryant collectible and more.
“One of the radio on-air personalities posted this on his social-media page, and the phone has been ringing a lot,” Peralta said. “Some of these people, I don’t even know, but they’re contributing prizes to help Randal.”
Because of the number of prizes and the value of some of those prizes, Bubbah’s Toy Box will put out the prizes for viewing, and start accepting donations for Randal, starting Monday and continuing until Saturday at 5 p.m.
Contributors make donations and receive tickets in return. These tickets are placed in a receptacle corresponding to a prize item they are interested in. At 5 p.m. Saturday, this process ends, and at 6 p.m. a drawing is made from each receptacle for the prize winners.
“People have been so generous,” Peralta said. “When they found out what we were doing, the prizes started to come in. As more prizes come in, they’ll be added to the display at the shop.”
