Kudos to Ashton Varner and the County Housing Agency on coordinating the outreach services for the Shelter In Place residents at the Salt Pond Beach Park. The effort was overlapped by the Kaua‘i Fire Department conducting water lifesaving exercises, and county Department of Parks &Recreation worker Simplicia Tugade making sure the beach was clean before the visitors arrived.

Mahalo, Myrvie Buster of Garden Island Federal Credit Union for hosting the recipients of the 10th annual Scholarships (Jeslie Ann Pavao and kumu Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin just made it home from the Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama graduation!) at the Koloa branch because the construction taking place at the Lihu‘e office makes access a bit tricky.
Ed Kawamura Sr. created a special Veterans Helping Veterans poster for the unveiling of the Go For Broke forever postage stamp. Kudos to Carolyn Morinishi and Faith Shiramizu for spearheading the event, where Norman Hashisaka (he’s Mayor Derek Kawakami’s uncle) represented the Nisei soldiers, including the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Janice Ishibashi represented the West Kaua‘i Club 100 with a special wreath and floral presentation (Kaleo Carvalho had copies of the lei created by Kawakami for May Day), and Joyce Sato represented the Sons and Daughters of the 442.
Kudos to Rose Anne Jones and Abigail Boroughs (Hob Osterlund, who supplied the bottle caps for the abacus, was there, too) on the opening of the Washed Up Marine Debris Art Show that Mayumi Fulgencio (her sister Leonila Fulgencio was one of the GIFCU scholarship recipients as well as a Grove Farm scholarship) said she was going to check out ahead of World Oceans Day that falls on June 8.
