If this is Sunday, the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific musical ensemble Small Kine (they have three unrelated Wilsons — Rachel Wilson, Derek Wilson and Dean Wilson) is performing at the Old Koloa Town from 3 p.m., near Sueoka Store.

Mahalo, Small Kine, which brought out the crowd (Janice Bond even gave away a red-white-and-blue lei to Derek Wilson), which got a first-class colors presentation and Memorial Day message from U.S. Marine Corps recruiter Sgt. Anthony Guerrero (Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said he’s related to someone at Famous Footwear) and 1st Sgt. Ian Versammy and the Kapa‘a High School JROTC color guard. Veteran Jim Jung got to enjoy dinner with his grandson, and apologies to Tom Clements for the crowd that wanted to check out Small Kine at Shenanigan’s.
Kudos, too, to Hawai‘i Technology Academy Kaua‘i Director Traci Sullivan, HTA teacher Florence Scott and the HTA eighth-grade humanities students on the launch of “We Are America, Too!” Friday afternoon, where the class was treated to a picture without face masks because it was done outdoors and semi-social-distanced! The book is available at the school’s office located inside the old athletic club building on Kukui Grove Street. Florence said they are working on trying to make it available online, but for now it’s only at the school.
More kudos to Teddy Arroyo, Michael Tresler and Kyle Linoz (Tommy Rita got in by helping with the team) on the resumption of 9-on-9 (two defenders are allowed to rush the quarterback) football at Vidinha Stadium, where Shereen Ho‘opi‘i (she’s a parent volunteer) of the Lili‘uokalani Trust is waiting to hear back from Malama Kaua‘i on the summer food distributions.
