LIHU‘E — The Lili‘uokalani Trust has a pair of events for keiki starting as early as next week at its facility at 4530 Kali Rd. in Lihu‘e, near The Garden Island newspaper office.
Starting Wednesday, June 2, the Youth Leadership Council will start in-person meetings from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for youth between 14 and 24.
The group that will be adhering to the COVID-19 health and safety guidelines of face masks and social distancing, is for youth interested in community engagement, developing life skills and leadership skills through Native Hawaiian identity.
During the meetings that will take place June 2, 16 and 30, participants will learn about Queen Lili‘uokalani, learn ‘oli, mele and protocol, as well as other fun activities for leadership development.
From July 12 through 16, the Lili‘uokalani Trust will present ‘Olino Summer 2021 for youth 11 through 14 years. Meeting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., ‘Olino Summer Program is an opportunity where ‘opio will have a chance to share their mo‘olelo via pathways they are most passionate in, states the program description at onipaa.org. Participating ‘opio will have the choice to explore either cyanotype creation, ukulele and song, or overall health and physical wellness.
