HANAPEPE — Kaua‘i Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau officials Thursday closed Salt Pond Beach Park in Hanapepe to swimming until further notice due to a shark sighting.
OSB officials reported that a possible 8-to-10-foot shark was sighted at the east end of the beach.
As a safety precaution, OSB officials advise no swimming until further notice. Signs have been posted to warn beachgoers of the sighting.
Lifeguards were to reassess the area this morning to determine if the beach can be reopened.
How far did you guys go out? In my younger years, I went as far as 20 ft. deep. That is about 40 yards from the Salt Pond Shoreline. But that was during my younger years. I don’t do that any more. Shark sighting heh?
Doesn’t the reef just out from the beach prevent the larger fish from entering?
