Cogratulations, Allen Reis, on doing 50 years of service to the Alexander &Baldwin and McBryde Resources (formerly McBryde Sugar Company) people!

There aren’t that many people who can claim that they’ve been working for the same people for that length of time, and kudos and mahalo to Darin Tann and the Keoki’s Paradise ‘ohana (the sign on the road says “Keoki’s Stay Open!”’) for staying open and giving Trinette Kaui and the A&B ‘ohana a place to celebrate Allen’s long work history.
Kudos to Kessica Pascua of Aegis (ask her about this name) for introducing tillandsia (they’re air plants, she said) to shoppers at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e (kudos, KGC, on doing such a bang-up Mother’s Day weekend!).
A part of the bromeliad family, tillandsia make good pet plants because you just need to soak them in room-temperature tap water (although they love rain or pond water for the nutrients)) for five or 10 minutes every week or two. And, yes, like all plants, they like good light!
Adam Coyaso (visitors love his coconuts) said Christine now holds down the fort (how is Mini Me doing?) at the Kaua‘i Coconuts food truck (is the mochi available there?) they opened at food-truck city in Koloa (near Sueoka Store). They’re open every day except Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m.
Bev Pang took that Thai cabbage and combined it with daikon, cucumber, beet tops (and what else?) to come up with a bottle of kim chee (I knew Ferdinand Dosono should’ve checked out that Thai won bok) for Amy Chun to sample since the Thai won bok was gone by the time Bev went to buy some.
Now’s a good time to check out the Bill Collins tiki. It is on break from tiki duty so it can join the works of art from artists Fran Kalb and Carol Meckling (there’s a kid work that will have a percentage turned over to the Kaua‘i Humane Society) who all happen to live on Pune‘e Road in ‘Oma‘o. The three artists’ work is on exhibit until May 21 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery in KGC.
