PO‘IPU — Mary Hannsz, tennis professional at Hanalei Bay Resort, was watching the match featuring Ryder Kenton, who edged out Ryan So in three sets, during the Kaua‘i Youth Tennis Tournament Series Saturday at the Po‘ipu Kai courts.
“Ryder was one of my students,” Hannsz said. “He played for the Kaua‘i Christian Academy, but might be switching schools when schools start up in the fall.”
Hannsz also announced that HBR will be hosting six weeks of summer tennis camps this year after everything was greatly scaled back last year because of the pandemic.
Children ages 5 through 16 years old — any skill level is OK — are welcome to join the fun and exciting camp presented by Peter Burwash International.
The PBI Tennis Summer Camp will run for a week starting June 7 through 11, and continue for six weeks, the final camp running July 12 through 16 from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
If a child is returning, or arriving to Kaua‘i, camp coordinators are asking the child to wait at least a week before registering. They must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
There is an admission fee for camp. Parents are asked to drop off and pick up participating campers at the HBR lobby. Drivers should not vehicles unattended.
Campers are asked to bring lunch or snack, towel, swimsuit, water bottle and sunscreen.
Registration is being accepted at the HBR tennis pro shop.
