LIHU‘E — The county announced that all residents age 16 and over are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines beginning Monday, April 5, at clinics around the island.
This moves Kaua‘i into phase two of the distribution, for the general population.
Appointments can be scheduled now for the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office clinics at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e. Appointments will be available to book starting Monday at hospital clinics at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa‘a, and Wilcox Medical Center in Lihu‘e.
Individuals with histories of severe allergic reactions should consult their doctors prior to making an appointment, and may not be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Kaua‘i’s vaccine rollout has been very efficient, according to county officials.
To ensure all appointment spots are filled and residents are offered vaccines as soon as possible, the DOH Kaua‘i District Health Office and hospital partners have determined it is time to open up vaccine availability to all Kaua‘i residents age 16 and over.
Health officials encourage all Kaua‘i residents to schedule appointments as soon as possible. Kaua‘i will rejoin the state Safe Travels program for trans-Pacific travel on April 5.
“More visitors and residents traveling to and from the island poses the risk of disease introduction,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, DOH Kaua‘i District Health Office officer. “Vaccination protects our residents, our loved ones and our community.”
The one-dose Johnson &Johnson vaccine will be available on April 5 at the DOH clinics at the convention hall. To make an appointment at this clinic, fill out the DOH Kaua‘i District Health Office COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation Survey.
The two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are widely available on Kaua‘i. Appointments are available at Kaiser, Safeway, Longs, Wilcox Medical Center, KVMH, SMMH and the DOH clinic. Veterans under Veterans Affairs care are eligible to receive vaccines through the VA. Existing Ho‘ola Lahui patients can make appointments through their clinics.

Residents age 16 and 17 can only make appointments for the Pfizer vaccine at the hospital clinics at Wilcox, SMMH or KVMH. Pfizer is the only vaccine with federal Food and Drug Administration emergency-use authorization for people age 16 and over. The vaccines by Moderna and Johnson &Johnson are approved for adults 18 and over only.
Patients will select two appointments if they are receiving either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or a single appointment if they are receiving the Johnson &Johnson vaccine.
Those receiving the two-dose vaccine should make appointments for both shots at the same location to ensure they receive the same vaccine and that two doses are registered in the same system for a complete vaccination record.
Visitors to Kaua‘i are not eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccine.
The county continues to offer free COVID-19 testing weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the convention hall, with those being tested getting their results the same day. The clinic is closed today for the Good Friday holiday.
Free testing is available to everyone on Kaua‘i, residents and visitors. No appointments are needed.
This test cannot be used for Safe Travels pre-travel test requirements.

I thought kids chances of having life threatening conditions as a result of covid infection are close to 0%
wow weird how its everyone over the age of 16 can get vaccinated. must just be a coincidence.
No thanks! I choose not to be experimented on.
Line up for your experimental Frankenstein shots. After over a year of not being sick, why take a shot with unknown long term side effects from a virus that you are almost guaranteed to survive. The shot only last 6 months or a year. Now we are like dogs that’s need to get our shots every year. This is medical tyranny! Pure and simple. Line up fearful citizens to get your shots. Forced vaccination will be a gross violation of our rights. I implore the rest of you to really consider what’s more dangerous, a virus with a 99.9% survival rate or a experimental vaccine that has not undergone extensive long term testing. The aborted fetus material in the vaccine shouldn’t bother you. Or the jellyfish genes spliced in. This is a human GMO, RNA altering shot not a true vaccine. Don’t believe me? Do your research.
wow you sound like you know what you are talking about. all that jellyfish abortion genes must be in everything now days.
Do you by any chance happen to breath in a lot of pesticides? Better be careful, the brain damage is starting to show
Ignorance is bliss til it perpetrates your demise. By all means, please volunteer to be part of the mass animal trials, take the GMO, RNA altering shot and we’ll get back to you in, say, six months to see how it went. Inquiring minds want to know.
Israel and China have Covid vaccine passports not to travel abroad but for local people to have permission to eat, shop and, travel in their local town.
