LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Society of Artists member artist Riddle said this is the final week to take in the KSA Spring Show that closes Friday at the KSA gallery at the Kukui Grove Center.
Riddle, who coordinated the recent art event at the Anahola Marketplace, was gallery sitting, Monday as the afternoon rain nudged people into the gallery where she had two pieces accepted for exhibit.
“I’ve been painting for about a year,” Riddle said about her “Sat Chit Ananda” acrylic piece. “They’ve got it displayed vertically. But it can work when hung horizontally because that’s the view I had while painting it. It works either way.”
Riddle, who had a saga about how she arrived at her name, pointed out the various pieces that were selected by the judges, Friday.
Tomo ko Ouchi’s “Intersection-ying” was voted First Place by the judges, and announced virtually by show chairperson RoseAnne Jones.
Across the aisle, Rebekah Nulph’s “Aloha Friday” picked up the most People’s Choice votes for the oil she started while doing online learning.
“It’s really nice,” Riddle said. “I can imagine myself at that place looking at the sunset.”
Second place in the judges’ voting went to Carol Meckling’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” an acrylic done on repurposed wood.
Third place honors belongs to Licia McDonald for her “2020,” a clay piece that is exhibited in one of the gallery’s show windows.
JuliJana Pinnock captured multiple honors for her “Manu Kai” that finished second in People’s Choice voting as well as being awarded the Donn “Curly” Carswell Memorial Award. Pinnock also did two of the painted violins that were featured in the Kaua‘i ‘Opio and Keiki Orchestra fundraiser that opened the show with middle school students performing solo pieces throughout the shopping center.
Freddie Zolinger’s “Greatest Witch Hunt Pau,” a combination of wood and copper earned the Honorable Mention nod.
The KSA 2021 Spring Show is available for viewing from noon to 4 p.m. through Friday at the KSA gallery at the Kukui Grove Center.
