LIHU‘E — Zero Waste Kaua‘i is hosting a Kaua‘i Climate Action Forum on Wednesday, March 10, at 6 p.m.
The conversation is “Food: Too Good To Waste.”
Tune in on FaceBook Live or via Zoom call to participate in the conversation that follows the presentation on how wasted food impacts the Kaua‘i community economically and socially, as well as the impacts of food waste on the environment and climate.
This virtual event series is a joint effort presented by local environmental groups Zero Waste Kaua‘i, Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition and Surfrider Kaua‘i.
John Harder, aka “The Dump Doctor,” is the guest speaker. Harder has lived and worked on Kaua‘i since his Taylor Camp days in 1969. He has been a leader in the field of solid-waste management for over 30 years, as solid waste coordinator for Kaua‘i County, Maui County, the state of Hawaii and for a short stint, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
He is an avid composter and has taught, helped develop, implement, regulate and oversee the operations of composting operations from backyard and small, farm-scale systems to facilities receiving foodwaste and biosolids (sewage sludge).
Registration is required to participate, and can be done at bit.ly/foodwasteforum. For more information, email kauaiclimateactionforum@gmail.com.
But doesn’t the process of decaying food and vegetation creat methane which increases global climate change?
CH 4, this chemical compound is also found in Mars. This is abundance on earth. It is used in airplane fuel. I guess they cannot fully do away with this gas. Otherwise there would be no airplanes needed or wanted.
