Happy Girls Day, Kaua‘i!
What about the guys? Bobby Kubota of Pono Market (Serena Tangelder was busy cleaning the windows next door at Hele On Kaua‘i) wanted to know after seeing the Women’s History Essay Contest 2021 poster by the Kaua‘i County Committee on the Status of Women on the front door. Bobby said gotta go in the morning to hear the Dallas Grady and Art Fujita stories.
It was Monday, so Ken Kubota and David Taboniar were working at Pono Coffee &Bakery (the hot dog was perfect for sit-down lunch!), and Lorre Bethke of Tropical Tantrum (ever notice how fabulous their window displays are?) was finding the back of the door was perfect for sweeping the dust behind so the wind wouldn’t fluff it around. And then, the customers came…Life Is A Beach!
Ken and Lorre both had some gorgeous Winston Kawamoto photos, including one beauty showing the Kilauea sugar mill under a head of smoke from its stacks.
State Farm Insurance agent Eric Kaneda (he beat me to Mike Martinez’s 10th anniversary!) got help from Diane Ritter in distributing shopping bags at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e Monday (couldn’t resist those lumpia, eh?) while announcing their food drive benefiting the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank. They’ll be collecting non-perishable food (and monetary donations) Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Times Supermarket at KGC.
And don’t forget the KOKO Stroll Friday starting at 5 p.m. that will open the Kaua‘i Society of Artists Spring Show, featuring Sarah Tochiki (you gotta check out her painted violin!) and her keiki violin players.
