PRINCEVILLE — The Cliffs at Princeville, a North Shore resort recognized for its commitment to sustainability, is now a premiere partner in a new program that honors protection of the Kaua‘i environment.
The Surfrider Kaua‘i Ocean Friendly Visitors Program was launched in November 2020 to help visitors protect the fragile health of Kaua‘i’s ocean, reefs, beaches and marine life.
The program focuses on visitors taking action on six core principles: keeping beaches clean; minimizing use of plastics; protecting reefs; protecting marine life; practicing appropriate COVID etiquette and dining responsibly.
Working with Surfrider Kaua‘i, The Cliffs at Princeville’s Ocean Friendly Visitors Program will be delivered through online welcome information packets and the resort’s website, with information on local beach-cleanup activities shared by the concierge team.
Jim Braman, The Cliffs at Princeville’s general manager, said the resort looks forward to working with Surfrider Kaua‘i to introduce the Ocean Friendly Visitors Program to guests.
“Our board of directors sees social responsibility, including greening, as a priority,” Braman said. “As passionate advocates for regenerative tourism, we view Kaua‘i as a special island, and we want to do all we can to keep it an amazing place to live, work and visit. That’s why this program fits so well with our mission.”
“We appreciate The Cliffs at Princeville signing on as a Premiere Resort Partner for the Ocean Friendly Visitors Program,” said Cynthia Welti, Surfrider Kaua‘i Chapter chair.
“The pandemic-related shutdowns here on Kaua‘i have given our ocean, beaches and reefs time to recover from the 2018 flood. Now that visitors are beginning to return, we want to help them understand how they can have a positive impact and personally leave Kaua‘i a little bit better than when they arrived,” she said.
”We are grateful to Jim Braman and his team for helping to achieve that goal.”
