LIHU‘E — February is Heart Health Awareness Month and Hearts4Kauai encourages women to wear red in honor of “Go Red for Women.”
Several local women gathered, all wearing red, at Rob’s Good Times Grill earlier this month to kick off the event. This annual American Heart Association promotion is to increase awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, not just men.
Jamie Baldwin, owner of Kaua‘i’s CPR/first aid training business, Hearts4Kauai, hosted the event.
Rob’s Good Times Grill is joining the efforts by donating a portion of proceeds from their February featured drinks to Hearts4Kauai.
The money raised will be used for scholarships for locals to complete CPR training.
“Through increasing awareness that heart disease is as deadly for women as for men and that women’s signs and symptoms are often very different than men’s, the number of women who do not survive cardiac emergencies can be decreased,” said Baldwin. “In addition to awareness, training more community members in recognizing signs and being able to use CPR will decrease those lost to cardiac emergencies.”
