Zero Waste Kaua‘i, Surfrider and the Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition are sponsoring an virtual forum to discuss recycling.
The 2021 Kaua‘i Climate Action Forum presents “The Case for Curbside Recycling on Kaua‘i” via Zoom, today at 6 p.m.
“Most people don’t realize there is a strong connection between solid-waste issues and the climate crisis, but in fact the extraction of raw materials worldwide, the manufacture of these materials into consumer goods and the customary disposal of these products by burning or landfilling (Kaua‘i’s main mode of handling waste) generates a tremendous amount of greenhouse gases,” the coalition said in a press release.
“Establishing curbside recycling on Kaua‘i would move Kaua‘i toward a more-sustainable future. It will help achieve the No. 1 goal in the Kaua‘i County‘s General Plan: a sustainable island. Come hear the presentation and join in the conversation about how, together, we can make this happen,” the press release said.
JoAnn Yukimura and Gemma Shepherd wil be presenting.
