‘ELE‘ELE — ‘Ele‘ele School received a donation of KeikiDesk cardboard desks from sponsors Hawai‘i Children’s Action Network and INNOVATE Hawai‘i last week.
With all of the precautions schools have to make to meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, getting donations is always helpful.
‘Ele‘ele School Counselor Noelani Butcher said the manufacturer of the cardboard desks is Rengo Packaging Inc., and HFA was the delivery company that shipped the cardboard KeikiDesks to Kaua‘i.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support that we have received during this time,” Butcher said. “They received donations to ship these desks to Kauai at no cost to us.”
KeikiDesk has donated over 6,070 desks, and 250 came to ‘Ele‘ele School, she said. “So far, with the help of individual and business donations made to Hawai‘i Children’s Action Network, KeikiDesk has donated cardboard desks to 31 schools across the state.
“These desks are so great for students, especially for families with several children that may not have enough space for students to do online learning at home,” said Bernard Riola, a fourth-grade teacher.
The desks are of heavy-duty cardboard construction, with no tools or cutting required, have water-resistant coatings and were manufactured on O‘ahu. The desks also fit a laptop computer and notebook, keep pens and pencils secure, and are portable and lightweight in design.
Each desk’s dimensions are 23 inches long by 15 inches wide and 11.125 inches in height. The company KeikiDesk was created by co-founders Lianna and Trung Lam.
