LIHU‘E — As the new year dawns, Lihu‘e Business Association announced that its board of directors voted to suspend membership dues for 2021.
President Pat Griffin said LBA is committed to prosperity in its broadest sense for Lihu‘e and, by extension, all of Kaua‘i.
Griffin said the LBA board voted unanimously to make donations to the foodbank out of its general funds. All of LBA’s income is generated from the organization’s $25 annual membership dues.
“As a result, there weren’t specific individuals who gave specifically to this effort, but an aggregate of membership support,” Griffin said. “That said, I am frequently humbled by the committed community involvement and generosity of our members.
Griffin said the board voted to provide the much-needed assistance to community foodbanks with confidence that its membership would approve the decision to help in this way at this time.
“In this time of need, we have used a portion of our past membership dues to provide $1,000 checks to the Hawai‘i Foodbank’s Kaua‘i Branch and the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank, Griffin said.
“We in the LBA look forward to continuing our program of speakers, our participation in master planning, and our ongoing dialogue with county, state and federal government officials in 2021.
“You are always welcome in our activities. The LBA works to assure prosperity for Kaua‘i that is economic, environmental, social and culture.
“We all look forward to a brighter, more prosperous 2021,” Griffin said.
