HONOLULU — Hawai‘i guard Daejah Phillips guided her team to a 71-54 victory over Hawai‘i Hilo Sunday afternoon in SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Phillips led Wahine in point production scoring 22 of the team’s 71 total points, and Kasey Neubert contributed an additional 13 points as the only two members of the Wahine to score points in double digits.
The Wahine offense was consistent throughout all four periods of the game, scoring 32 in the first half and surging to a 22-point third quarter.
Amy Atwell contributed to the team’s offensive production, nearly generating a double-double scoring seven points and grabbing 11 rebounds on the night.
Hawai‘i successfully contained the Vulcan’s top scorer Mandi Kawaha and didn’t let her supporting cast score enough points to beat them.
Kawaha finished with a team-high 23 points, and Sara Shimizu finished with nine points and four assists.
Kawaha and Shimizu accounted for over half of the team’s point production in the losing effort.
Hawai‘i will now begin their conference play when they travel to Cal Poly at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mott Athletics Center in San Luis Obispo, California.
