UH running back Miles Reed to enter the transfer portal

Hawai’i standout running back Miles Reed has announced via Twitter Wednesday afternoon his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Last season, Reed was the focal point of the offense, but the coaching change from 2019 Rainbow Warriors’ head coach Nick Rolovich to Todd Graham in 2020 altered Reed’s role in the offseason.

Reed, who was no longer the feature back, split carries in a running-back by committee situation throughout the entire season.

Last year, Reed had 908 yards on 5.2 yards per carry with 174 attempts and eight touchdowns.

Reed now had to split carries between quarterback Chevan Corderio and newcomer Calvin Turner, who eventually received the majority of the carries on the season.

Reed’s numbers this season declined from last year’s production.

Reed carried the ball 82 times for 346 yards and a touchdown. He was involved more in the passing offense than in years past, posting a career-high of 16 receptions for 123 yards over a COVID-19 shortened season.

After announcing via Twitter his intention to depart, Reed included an elongated letter to the Rainbow Warriors’ fans about his leaving.

“Dear Hawai’i Family, I am forever grateful to the University of Hawai’i for giving me the opportunity, to play collegiate ball and represent them on and off the field. I would like to thank the University of Hawai’i coaching staff for believing in me and allowing me to lead this team as a captain, and to the teammates, I call my brothers. Thank you for the incredible memories and bonds we established that no one can take away,” Reed wrote. “Thank you, Hawai’i, for your relentless support of me, and the life-changing three years here. I will always live Aloha and play as a Warrior.

He ended the tweet with the following hashtag “#LLSS41.”
