One of the cases is an adult resident, and the two others are children. All are community-acquired infections. Saturday’s cases are from different households and not connected to each other. All active cases are in isolation, and one case is hospitalized on O‘ahu.
Close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine and offered testing.
Saturday’s cases bring the number of on-island active cases to 17, with 155 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 136 confirmed locally, one probable, and 18 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
The DOH advises residents to wear masks at all times when outside the home and around other people. The virus is circulating in the community and is not confined to one location or part of the island. If all are careful whenever out, the island can continue to enjoy Tier 4 activities through the holidays.
The mayor’s emergency rule 23 is in effect, which sets a temporary moratorium of the Safe Travels program. Under this rule, all incoming travelers, including mainland, inter-island residents and visitors, are under a 14-day, mandatory quarantine.
