LIHU‘E — The state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported four new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
All of the cases are adult residents: two are community-acquired infections, and two are travel-related. All active cases are in isolation, and one case is hospitalized on O‘ahu. Close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine and offered testing.
Friday’s cases bring the number of on-island active cases to 15, with 152 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 133 confirmed locally, one probable, and 18 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
“The virus is circulating in our community and is not confined to one location or part of our island,” said Mayor Derek Kawakami.
”If we are all careful whenever we are out, we can continue to enjoy our Tier 4 activities through the holidays,” said Kawakami. “It is essential to wear your mask at all times when outside your home and around other people.”
The mayor’s emergency rule 23 is in effect, which sets a temporary moratorium of the state’s Safe Travels program. Under this rule, effective earlier this month, all incoming travelers, including mainland, inter-island residents and visitors, are under a 14-day, mandatory quarantine.
The county’s modified-quarantine program remains in place for critical-infrastructure workers, essential medical travel or other special circumstances. To apply for a modified quarantine, visit kauai.gov/COVID-19 and click on the “modified quarantine request” button at the top of the page.

Walmart parking lot filled all the way to the back lot yesterday… Christmas shoppers I would imagine Amazon for me this year. Wonder what public places these infected people are going and if they are attempting guidelines … if they caught it seemʻs they were spreading it too

The vaccine is a man made experimental synthetic virus.
Ibuprofen is putting Covid patients in hospital into ventilators which is pop-corning their lungs…guinea pig rush order vaccine virus.
Oh the lack of transparency and detail coming from the DOH !
Four new cases on Friday. How severe ? Asymptomatic ? Mild symptoms ? Moderate ? Severe, requiring hospitalization ?
Not all new cases are the same. With the increased testing, asymptomatic cases are diagnosed much more often and with the increased awareness resulting in mask wearing and social distancing, new infections likely have lower viral loads and therefore less severe symptoms. Therefore new cases are not at the same level of threat to the island’s hospitalization capacity than they used to be. Covid’s utilization of Kauai’s hospital facilities currently stands at ZERO ! All these new cases recently that the Mayor and the DOH freaked out about and they represent no threat to overwhelming Kauai’s hospital beds. ZERO threat to be exact.
Let it go. Just let it go. People who breed and gather like chinchillas will die like chinchillas.
Imagine a vaccine so safe you have to be threatened to take it, for a disease so deadly you have to be tested to know you have it.
“The virus is circulating in our community,” said Mayor Derek Kawakami.
Gee, I wonder how that happened? Do ya think maybe it’s because YOU decided to let in tens of thousands of untested, un-quarantined tourists this past autumn, just so your donor base in the hotel and airline industry could see a revenue bump?
There’s also a conspiracy theory circulating around the island that Mayor Kawakami was under orders by his wealthy friends to let Covid leak into our community so as to keep locals sick, unemployed and broke, which will ultimately result in them having to sell their property to Kawakami’s friends.
No matter the reason, it was a STUPID decision to open up the island again to tourism. Thanks Mayor!!!
I don’t think it was a stupid decision to open, I think the Mayor made a mistake in not sticking to his guns and demanding that we open with a second test. I think it is the one major mistake he made. I do believe that Ige would have caved and let us open with two tests (like the Big Island) in order to open the entire state at one time. And if not, then we would have stayed closed.
How can we find out where the community spread cases are located?
