Buddy Lizama had poi duty, Wednesday when his son, Derrik Lizama of Garden Island Kalo, got stuck on the wrong side of the Hanalei Bridge. Derrik sells poi on Wednesday and Saturday at the All Saints Gym. Buddy was just one of the vendors in the All Saints Gym parking lot where the newly-stickered Kaua‘i Community Cat Project mobile clinic was going full speed ahead (mahalo to Becca’s Sweet Treats for the Right Side Up Pineapple treat!).

Those are small businesses…check out Kukui Grove Center for the Small Business Saturday event (Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i has been active for several years now) where Edie Ignacio Neumiller will have the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i doing its part in the Call to Action: 16 Days of Activism that also supports Small Business Saturday.
Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank (mahalo for the Thanksgiving laulau — in the rain, no less — reminds me of the old days when people used to go around delivering ‘Thanksgiving’ chicken, ham, turkeys, and other appreciation gifts) was on vacation, but still working with the East Kaua‘i Lions Club (president Janice Bond was helping at the Salvation Army Thanksgiving luncheon, too!) to get the food packages ready for the Kapa‘a Interfaith Association Thanksgiving Luncheon home deliveries.
On the other side of the coin, Hawai‘i Foodbank, Kaua‘i Banch’s Michelle Panoke and Chyenne Beach were hard at work volunteering at the Salvation Army luncheon (kudos to Capt. Shawn Keoho and Lt. Amy Lewis on getting those 800 meals out!).
Today, Rod Green launches the Toys for Tots campaign from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center.
