LIHU‘E — Target is coming!
The Kukui Grove Center announced the arrival of the new retailer to its ‘ohana of retailers, restaurants, and specialty services to the building at the Kukui Marketplace, close to the Kumu’s Cupboard resource center for Kaua‘i school educators.
The planned store will cover approximately 122,000 square feet following a renovation to the existing space at the Kukui Marketplace, the announcement states.
“We are delighted to be able to welcome Target to Lihu‘e,” said David Sosner, the Kukui Grove Center general manager. “This is an important project for us, introducing a substantial building renovation and new jobs to boost our local economy.
“The potential arrival of Target has been a buzz in the community for years, and we are excited to be able to deliver this new offering to Kaua‘i consumers. We think it will be a wonderful addition to our mix of retailers, restaurants, and specialty services at Kukui Grove, and offer a new shopping experience that we don’t currently have available on Kaua‘i.”
During the lease negotiation, JLL represented the Kukui Grove Center.
“Having such a beloved brand join our growing roster of retailers at Kukui Grove Center is a tremendous boost for our community,” said Lauren W. Stilley, Vice President, National Retail Leasing, JLL. “There is strong demand for accessible quality retail that offers a convenient shopping experience on the island. Their new store will be a welcome addition and make an immediate impact.”
The addition of Target follows several upgrades to the shopping center that started in 2017 when JLL started managing the property. Some of these upgrades include a food court renovation, the introduction of a Keiki Korner Play Area, and a new specialty leasing program to bring more entrepreneurs and nonprofits into the retail lineup.
The work continues despite the arrival of the COVID-19 global medical crisis.
“During COVID-19, our team has been working hard on upgrades, including rock veneer on the raised planters, painting projects, parking lot improvements, and new outdoor furniture arriving at the end of this year,” Sosner said. “We’ve greatly appreciated the support of the community during this challenging year, and we’ve been working hard to support our merchants and customers. When customers shop, this helps all merchants at the center, their employees, and the families they support. Kukui Grove is a community hub as well as a retail center, and this is one more way we can support Kaua‘i.”

Great another big box store to take from the local retail and add more plastic to our land fill.
You will always have the choice to shop local; I know I will continue to do so despite being happy about Target on Kauai. They offer some things that local vendors don’t—furniture, sports equipment, seasonal decor…not to mention this will create jobs on island and promote healthy market competition for other big stores with similar products. If you still disagree, then simply don’t shop there.
What local retailer sells what Target has to offer?
You need your King back with all the island Chiefs and then you can manage and live on the Kings land. The good old days……
This just saved 2020. Thank you Target.
Great News for Kaua’i and long overdue.
Once again crappy reporting by TGI, missing a key point. When is the projected opening date for the Kaua’i Target Store? No surprise that print papers are folding at an accelerated rate. Ty
What is long overdue is that the media mafia of Kauai is EXactly the same as team zuckerberg and all the goobement circus clowns that have HAD no clue about what they are doing, except continuing the Ruse, collusion, corruption, and guilty stolen mailbox Fraud-ulators from biden obum to igenoring the plight of the Hawaiian Kingdom Nations’ peoples, as well as a weird kind of marshal law for almost 13-Decades. Now, the concerted efforts to complete military takeover, Ballistic Missile Facility PMRF complete by 2022 with 1.2 Billion $ funded/spent to keep Polihale closed, repositioning PMRF entry gate to Kekaha McArthur park so as to monitor or decline civilian residents usages.

Why doesn’t Kaua’i like K-Mart any more? They have requested a Targets. I saw Targets store a long time ago. In Washington state in 1990.
I have worked for Target in Arlington Texas from the first day they opened for about 4 yrs. We even had a baseball team for the employees. We had fun, got some exercise & a spirit of togetherness as a team. I had great bosses & got to work probably in every department they had because it wasnt just any Target but a SuperTarget, which will be great for Kauai, more jobs, more money & best of all great for our tourist industry. I can’t wait to work for them again either in the office or Security loss prevention or whatever department they may need me is just fine with me. I love Target. Or SuperTarget. I think its about time Walnart gets some competition. Hurry up Target
because I need a job, so I will just wait until u get here so until then I will rest in my temporary rretirement. LOL
