LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Destination Management Action Plan Community is hosting a virtual meeting for residents living in the south and west portions of Kaua‘i at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, and residents residing in north and east Kaua‘i at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22.
LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Destination Management Action Plan Community is hosting a virtual meeting for residents living in the south and west portions of Kaua‘i at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, and residents residing in north and east Kaua‘i at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22.
This meetings will be hosted by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, County of Kaua‘i and Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau.
The deadline to RSVP for both meetings is Tuesday, Oct. 20.
County Office of Economic Development Director Nalani Brun said this is the first of the HTA DMAP community meetings.
“What we will be doing is reviewing the project goals as laid out by the HTA and then show the participating community members what the steering committee has come up with so far to get the ball rolling,” Brun said. “From there we expect to get feedback on the direction the recommendations are going as well as take in additional recommendations from the community.”
Brun said this project is about “how do we steer our Kaua‘i island visitor industry in the direction of something our community can appreciate again?”
“This is not a gripe session. It’s about putting our community brainpower together and sharing ideas to make things better for ourselves and the visitors as we come out of this pandemic,” Brun said.
At these meetings, DMAP will cover community issues including how to help to reset, rebuild and redefine tourism on Kaua‘i, learning about the planning process and hearing the proposed actions developed by the Kaua‘i steering committee.

why not open a new car factory, or maybe a giant Amazon distribution warehouse….or maybe a Boeing airplane assembly plant ….to replace tourism jobs….on wait …!
like it or not, we need travelers and visitors, cause that is about all we got….
Why not invest in industries commonly good a remote work? Build the infrastructure and talent needed for software development, graphic arts, marine research… While at that, change the crop testing fields into renewable energy testing fields and we have even more wins.
Relying on tourism doesn’t fix the future and, frankly, is lazy.
There are two types of people on Kauai.
The ones with money don’t want tourism.
The ones that need to work for a living do want tourism.
Simple
Or there are people who want to find new ways of doing things that make the whole island better. If your world is so black and white, you are forgetting that this is a state of rainbows.
