LIHU‘E — Ocean Course at Hokuala golf professional Kellie Hines coached or joked with Sharron Weber of Tire Warehouse while briefing the field of 72 golfers participating in the 27th Annual Contractors Association of Kaua‘i scholarship golf tournament, Saturday morning.
“You have to let Alex Ahana drive too, Sharron,” Hines interjected while covering the rules of the tournament that helps fuel the CAK 2021 scholarships.
Weber finished the two-person format play as the Longest Drive for Ladies winner.
Casey Watabu, a double-winner in the sold out tournament, secured the honor for the men. He also teamed with Beau Acoba to finish first with a low net 57 over the Hokuala Ocean Course, winning a staycation package at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club that includes rounds of golf on the Ocean Course at Hokuala and dinner at Gaylord’s compliments of HAMCO Glass and Glazing.
Chris Tavares and Brandon Malama paired to earn the second place in Low Net play followed by Austin Simao and Sheldon Sakai finishing third.
Michael Garcia and Justin Ganaden teamed from the Gather Federal Credit Union quartet to finish fourth, and the team of Jarrett Rabot and Willis Buford settled in fifth place.
Because this was the 27th year of golf for the CAK, the team of Owen Nishihara and Verna Bacarro were honored for their 27th place finish with travel certificates to a destination of their choice.
A spokesperson for the Contractors Association of Kaua‘i said they were pleased with the outcome of the tournament that, despite a smaller amount of golfers, was very well organized through the efforts of Hines and her Hokuala team that allowed golf to be played with adjustments for the COVID-19 rules and guidelines.
The Contractors Association of Kaua‘i was established in 1957 as a trade association of licensed contractors, suppliers and businesses affiliated with the construction industry on Kaua‘i.
