East Kaua‘i Lions Club President Janice Bond said she was the teacher for both Jaye Gayagas-Youn (she was guarding her cereal kingdom) of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach, and former county Public Information Officer Mary Daubert, who appeared for the first time to help with food distribution for the employees of the Waipouli resort. Kudos to Chef Lucas Sauter on putting together that Chinese meal (that veggie roll done a la lumpia style was a definite winner).

Kudos too, to Tess Shimabukuro (no security detail this time) on the dedication of the Gather Federal Credit Union Koloa branch that took place on International Coffee Day (good reason to visit Eden Coffee, located next door). Brent Mizutani (he retired from the state Department of Education) didn’t have to do the coffee thing — he just waited until after the water passed, coffee to follow, and it was indeed a pleasure to see Gather FCU board members Walton Hong and Victor Punua Sr. enjoying the celebration.
Wendy Oyama is not going to let COVID-19 rain on Thanksgiving, said Mary Margaret Smith, who co-chairs the annual free community thanksgiving lunch with Sarah Rogers for the Kapa‘a Interfaith Association of Kaua‘i. Mahalo for the early notice so people are able to plan accordingly for the new drive-thru meal pickup COVID-19 format. And, yes, there will be the home-delivery service that will move to the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission to accommodate the new conditions resulting from the pandemic.
