LIHU‘E — The Bridge: Kaua‘i to College, a charitable organization that coordinates mentorship for high-school students to help them choose appropriate colleges by helping each student with the application process, is hosting an Instagram College Prep Giveaway contest from today to Sunday, Oct. 18.
Winners will be announced by Nov. 1 through a lottery of followers who have shared their posts.
“We are a nonprofit organization that matches volunteer adult mentors with local high-school students to help choose appropriate colleges, complete successful applications, plan finances and prepare for college,” said TBKC Treasurer Tisa Herold. “In addition to free one-on-one mentoring, we provide funding for SAT-preparation classes, critically-needed technology, and scholarships for summer-enrichment programs such as to Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.”
Herold said TBKC created the contest to publicize the launch of their new social-media campaign, Virtual Bridge Academy, and attract more followers.
“The goal is to get more Kaua‘i kids to enroll in our program and become college-bound ‘Bridge Kids,’” said Herold.
The grand prize includes an online SAT Prep Course valued at $500, and a $20 Starbucks card.
The second-place prize includes a professional college-consultation session valued at $200 and a choice of general college consultation with Dr. Susan Davis or financial consultation with Dr. Debra Ching, with a $15 Starbucks card.
The third-place prize includes a one-year Amazon Prime subscription, which is valued at $119, and a $15 Starbucks card.
Those who enter will also have the opportunity to win one of five copies of “How to Win at College” by Cal Newport.
“In addition, we are excited to launch our new (virtual) The Bridge Academy,” siad Herold. “These are a series of six-to-10-minute podcasts on topics critical to academic success in high school and college. Check them out at: kauaitocollege.org/succeeding.
“Also, during the COVID-19 crisis while so much education is taking place by video, we now approve cost-sharing grant applications from Bridge Kids for laptops and critically-needed technology,” said Herold
