Help sought finding missing man
LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department is actively searching for a missing Wailua man who was last known to be hiking the Kalalau Trail last weekend.
Mark Maurin, 45, was reported missing at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, wearing a white and dark blue shirt and black shorts.
According to a report, Maurin was last seen at around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, when a friend dropped him off at the Kalalau trailhead at Ke‘e Beach.
Maurin told a friend he planned to hike the trail from Ke‘e Beach to Kalalau Valley, where he was going to camp for the weekend, according to a press release. Maurin was scheduled to return to Ke‘e Beach to be picked up by the same friend at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Maurin, however, did not show up for the scheduled pickup.
Maurin is approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 148 pounds. Maurin is white with brown hair and hazel eyes.
KPD has been searching for him since he was reported missing on Wednesday.
