Ferdinand was going crazy, forgetting which stove to tend, and running out of rice. It must’ve been the heat (it was so hot, Greg Askew took the day off and sent Candace Boxer to mind the Ono Pops tent), and Ursa Swift was waiting for someone to get the last load of sourdough so she could pack up. Nah, it’s hotter in Hanapepe, Ursa.
Kudos to Novelyn Hinazumi and her Child &Family Service ‘ohana (there’s a lot of them) on another successful Festival of Hope for Families. Wes Perreira of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i Branch didn’t have to worry about the Virtual Food Drive Day. He was packing and distributing food with Leroy Remigio (is he going to check on the Queen Lili‘uokalani Trust distribution Tuesday?) and Andrew Panoke (remember him with the refrigerator during the food-pantry installation at Kekaha School?).
And Aaron Swink of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources could’ve used Jean Souza’s help (she would’ve loved this event) in getting out some of those Lokahi Kits (those traffic-control monitors know how to have fun with those soap bubbles). It was hot at Vidinha Stadium, too. Grove Farm employee and County Council Chair Arryl Kaneshiro had to change gloves how many times? And state Rep. Nadine Nakamura was really good about sanitizing after every produce package handoff.
