Dr. Francis Takahashi said he saw signs of life stirring inside Merriman’s Fish House Wednesday during the farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula. Note the new name for the Wednesday market, Ron Wood. Pillare Mukai (Stacie Chiba Miguel was tied up with meetings) said the name change came about because the novel coronavirus took away the chef’s demonstration phase of the market that is a partnership with the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau (yes, Terry Gordines even had some of that pork belly bao being served up by Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi).

Sara Miura of Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i is a master at juggling incoming freight as well as her weekly shopping that included a jar of Tiny’s Takuan from Lanipo Farms. And Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank was shopping for items that will be part of the food giveaway (Stacie said it’s going to be big), Friday, Aug. 14 (yes, it’s a pau hana Friday) from 4:30 p.m. at The Shops at Kukui‘ula. More details coming after Stacie’s done with her meetings.
With that kind of excitement taking place, no wonder Zaja Ballard just chilled out in mama’s shopping basket (what happens when mama finds more goodies like the ginger chews being offered up by Karen Herrera of Aloha Ginger Beer (miss not seeing them on the Eastside)?
