Thanks for the Kaua‘i Candidates Forum. On the subject of permanent affordable housing, it seems that 50% to 80% of the average Kaua‘i income is what is needed, rather than the not-very-affordable 120% to 140% average income. Those who actually make $11 an hour at businesses around the island simply cannot afford the higher prices. Please maximize permanent affordable housing rather than exempting areas for the benefit of the developers. Thank you.

Signing ballot envelope on the outside is ‘ridiculous’
I recently received my mail-in ballot.
I am very disturbed by the lack of insight shown in producing these ballots. You have to sign the OUTSIDE of the ballot envelope before mailing. How absolutely ridiculous. With the prevalence of identity theft, here we voluntarily sign the ballot, and who knows how many people will handle it.
You have the option to hand-carry your ballot to local firehouses from August 3 to 8. It’s what I intend to do, and I hope you will follow suit.
I hope to God someone corrects this ridiculous blunder before the general elections in November. I used to vote absentee, and you had to sign the envelope that the ballot is placed in. Please return to that policy.

How about not allowing mail in ballots unless out of town, handicapped, or proof that one is not able to get off their rather larges rear ends and vote in person! Mail in ballots to cheaters are like giving free heroine to a recovering addict!!
Aloha Kathy, here in the state of WA. we have been signing the outside of the envelope since we began vote by mail. We are one of the most successful states to vote by mail. It is our “POTUS” that spreads the misinformation in regards to vote by mail and his attack on the USPS, along with putting one of his parties largest donors, in the position of tearing apart the USPS.
Your vote is important, so please don’t use excuses to not vote. This November will make or break our country. Drew Cornish, Seattle Wa.
What needs to be said about affordable housing is that it too should not be allowed to proliferate without the necessary INFRASTRUCTURE considerations—same as any type of development. 1,100 homes in Poipu on Ala Kinoiki bypass road at Poipu Rd.?? What about the ensuing traffic thru Maluhia (Tree Tunnel) and on “Kaum” Hwy To Lihue? Have the approvers of this project ever tried to drive west from Lihue on Kaumualii Hwy after 2:00 during the school year? It’s bumper to bumper—like the H-1— from Puhi to Kalaheo! Developers and their enablers need to help fund 2-lanes-each-way roads from South Shore to Lihue, OR/AND open up the CANE TUNNEL to Kipu side—-before any more homes or hotels get approved. Anything else is madness, inefficiency, delays, pollution and increased fatalities.
Nothing free…please turn off Fox News and look around you! There is a dangerous pandemic that has killed 150,000 citizens. It is dangerous to vote in person, so get off your ‘large butt’ and wake up.
