Marvin R. Okuno
Marvin R. Okuno, 76, a long time resident of Gardena, California, passed away on April 17, 2020. He was born April 30, 1943, in Koloa, and spent his youth growing up in Kukui‘ula.
During his junior year at Koloa High, his family moved to Gardena, California, in 1959. He completed his senior year at Gardena High School.
After graduation, he attended a technical college for a few years. He joined the Army in 1962, and was part of the 82nd Airborne Troop. He rose to the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1964. After leaving the Army, he went to work with Carroll Shelby at Shelby American racing program. He stayed at Shelby American until it was sold. From there he went to work at a Datsun (now Nissan) franchise, doing custom paint jobs on cars. He then went to work for Continental Airlines (now United Airlines), retiring in 2008 after for 33 years.
He is survived by brother Wesley Okuno, sisters Ruby (Bill) Christiansen and Sherry (Rob) Thuresson, niece Jordon Okuno, nephews, Brandon (Nok) Okuno, RJ Thuresson and Kevin (Tara) Thuresson, and grand-niece Presley Thuresson.
He was preceded in death by parents Saburo and Mitsuko Okuno, sister Karen and younger brother Merle.
Due to COVID-19, he was cremated and was finally laid to rest on June 20, at the Green Hills Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verdes, alongside his mother, brother and sister. To his long-time friends and their families in the U.S., Honduras and Mexico, he was ‘ohana, and will be missed dearly.

Jean Hisayo Hayashi
Jean Hisayo Hayashi passed away on July 14, 2020, at the age of 90, at her residence. She was born on June 11, 1930, in Hanapepe. She was a retailer for Stan’s Jewelers and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Sukeji Hayashi, brothers Shinobu Sugahara and Shinichi Sugahara, and sister Esther Nekomoto.
She is survived by son Scott Hayashi of Hanapepe, daughter Sandie (Matt) Ashland of Corvallis, Oregon, grandchildren Kayla Ashland and Nicholas Ashland, brother Raymond Sugahara of Gardena, California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private burial will be held at a later date. The family suggests no koden (monetary gifts).

Patricia Lucille Victorino
Patricia Lucille Victorino, 71, of Wailua Homesteads, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on July 1, 2020. She was born in Lihu‘e, on Oct. 30, 1948, and retired as a custodian with the state Department of Education.
She was preceded in death by husband Richard Victorino, parents William and Lucy Freitas and brother Anthony G. Freitas Sr.
She is survived by brothers Jerome Freitas Sr. and Steven (Lorna) Freitas, sisters Charlotte (Ronnie) Romero and Paulette (Rodney) Bristol, nephew and caretakers Travis (Mana Brown) Medina, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be Friday, July 24, at St. Catherine Church, with viewing from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. (masks are required). Anyone planning to attend services should RSVP to Steven at 652-1459 or Travis at 652-2810. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Gertrudis Sebastian ‘Tuding’ Salud
Gertrudis Sebastian “Tuding” Salud, 56, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on July 8, 2020. She was born in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on March 17, 1964, and was a housekeeper at Kapa‘a Shore Resort.
She was preceded in death by mother Agustina Sebastian and brother Romulo Sebastian.
She is survived by husband Elpidio “Elpi” Salud, sons Gerald Salud and Ephraim Salud, father Leonardo Sebastian, brothers Rosario (Nelda) Sebastian, Aurelio (Victoria) Sebastian, Edward (Leonora) Sebastian, Arnolfo (Diovie) Sebastian and Romel (Marylin) Sebastian, sister-in-law Joan Sebastian, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 25, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Revelina B. Bristol
Revelina B. Bristol of Lihu‘e passed away on April 29, 2020, at her residence, at the age of 91. Born on Jan. 21, 1929, in the Philippines, she retired on Kaua‘i after working in the pineapple cannery and as a hostess in various hotels.
As a teenager, she moved to Kaua‘i from the Philippines. She was married to Fred Bristol for 62 years. In the 1960s, she and her husband opened a small restaurant in Koloa called Cosmopolitan Cafe. Her greatest love was her dedication to her faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, alongside her family.
She was preceded in death by husband Federico (Fred) Bristol and daughters Angeline and Esterlita Bristol.
She is survived by children Rodney (Paula) Bristol, Veda (Michael) Cruz and Warren (Susan) Bristol, sisters Isabel Speck and Visitation Brittain, brother Licerio Butacan, grandchildren Ronney (Briana), Donney, Denney, Roddy (Crystal), Jenney, Randy, Jacob (Andrea) Bristol, Denaje (Sterling) Calvert and Eric Beres, great-grandchildren Maverick, Brennan, Maddox, Reeve, Maiya, Elijah, Malakai and Titus Bristol.
Private services will be held on Saturday, July 25.

Elpidio ‘Pat’ Aquino
Elpidio “Pat” Aquino passed away peacefully on July 8, 2020, at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 94. He was a print press operator for Garden Island Publishing and later Printing Services Corporation, from where he retired.
He was born in Koloa on Jan. 28, 1926.
He was preceded in death by parents M. Quirino Aquino and Clara Unday Aquino, sons Timothy Aquino and Dominic Aquino, grandson Shaun Angel Aquino, brothers Benjamin, Wenceslao “Winky” and Rudy, and sisters Fely Begonia, Trinidad Pagador and Katherine Lavilla.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Remata Aquino, son Myles (Darnell) Aquino, daughters Celeste (Edgar) Rivera and Wanda (Michael) Lazaro, daughter-in-law Lorlina Aquino, 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brothers Demetrio “Don” Aquino and Dennis (Anita) Aquino, sisters Mercy (David) Remata, Nadia (Pablo) Sarmiento and Dinah (Wally) Tavares, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service including family visitation and a Catholic service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at Garden Island Mortuary. Burial will follow 1 p.m. at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, masks are mandatory and social distancing is required.

Al Yukinobu Shimabukuro
It is with great sadness that the family of Al Yukinobu Shimabukuro, age 67, announce his passing on June 15, 2020, at his home in ‘Oma‘o, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on June 8, 1953, in Hilo. He attended Hilo High School, moving to Kaua‘i in 1974. He received his certification of journeyman carpenter in April of 1981, and built his family home in ‘Oma‘o. He worked as a carpenter for the next 31 years on Kaua‘i. He was a well-known and avid big-wave surfer throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by father Fred Rinko Shimabukuro of Hilo.
He leaves behind his wife Catherine Shimabukuro of 38 years and son Luke Koshin Shimabukuro of Kaua‘i, mother Carol Shimabukuro, sister June Shimabukuro and brother Arnold Shimabukuro of Hilo.
He was known for his kindness and generosity of his talents to friends and family. He will be sorely missed by his many friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
Dolores ‘Dolly’ Gabriel Mandap
Dolores “Dolly” Gabriel Mandap, 84, of Mililani. peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 5, 2020.
She was a mainstay in the hospitality and restaurant industries for over 25 years. Her beautiful smile and heart of aloha always made patrons — locals and visitors alike — feel so welcomed. Everywhere she went, she made fast friends. After retiring, she became an active member of her church. She cooked, cleaned, worked at carnivals, supported fundraisers, etc. However, of her many roles and accomplishments, she was most proud of being a devoted mother to her six children and a loving grandmother to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom miss her more than words can say.
She was preceded in death by father Felix Gabriel, mother Timotea Deboma, son Aaron Gabriel Cummings, and grandchildren Ka‘iulani Cummings, Kyle, Pa‘ana‘akala and Shiloh Aiu.
She is survived by husband Robert (“Bob”), sons Abraham (Carol) Cummings and Willie Cummings, daughters Rinda (Kappy) Aiu, Mamo (Max) Cummings Graham and Koki Cummings, grandchildren Gabriel, Kanoe, Dee Dee, Kawailele, Michael, Dan, Tim, Angel, Daron, Ka‘ili, Momi, Luke and Hunter, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and one great-great-grandchild.
A private Mass will be held.

Tsukiko Masukawa
Tsukiko Masukawa passed away on May 12, 2020, at the age of 91 in Papa‘a, Anahola. She was born on May 12, 2020, in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in death by husband Shigeo Masukawa, sister Nobuko Takai and son-in-law Melvyn Furuta.
She is survived by daughters Jeannette Furuta of Honolulu, Gale Masukawa-Kashuba of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Deena (Paul) Yamamoto, Kristy (Reidly) Furuta-Yogi and Shigeo Masukawa, great-grandchildren Riley Yamamoto, Kaeley Yogi, Kennedy Yogi, Raiden Yogi, Ryder Masukawa, sister Sadako (Stanley) Miyamoto of Honolulu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Services were held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Dean Hironaka
Dean Hironaka passed away on July 18, 2020, at the age of 81, in ‘Ele‘ele.
He was born on April 16, 1939, in Hayward, California. He was an artist.
He was preceded in death by father Takeo Hironaka and mother Kazuko Yamamoto.
He is survived by granddaughter Charity Marshall, niece Teri Stratton, brother Ron Stratton and sister Joann Stratton.
Services will be held at a later date.
