LIHU‘E — When the Hawai‘i National Guard announced its salute to Hawai‘i’s Health Care Heroes on May 14, the Wilcox Health team decided it would form a “W” utilizing its team workers garbed in orange.
“The funny thing about a ‘W’ is that when you view it upside down, it’s an ‘M,’” said Jen Chahanovich, the Wilcox Medical Center’s president and CEO. “On the day of the fly over, there was an elderly lady at Garden Isle Healthcare — they can’t have any visitors because of COVID-19 — who viewed all the smiling faces on the backside of the ‘W’ looking up at her. She thought it was all for Mother’s Day, and that was so special.”
Chahanovich, along with key players including Don Pilker of Security and Troy Branstetter of Facilities Management accepted momentos of the commemorative flyover that took place on May 14.
“Yes, we will display these, proudly,” Chahanovich said in accepting the flag that flew over the State Capitol and a commemorative photo from the Kaua‘i legislative team that included Sen. Ron Kouchi, Rep. Nadine Nakamura, Rep. James Tokioka, and Rep. Dee Morikawa, all of whom thanked and praised the work being done not only by the Wilcox Health team, but also the work accomplished done in collaboration and partnership with the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation hospitals, Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital, and the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
